And winter isn't even here yet!!!!!!!!!! I'll probably break out the fancy stuff soon to get some flies going, but I like the jigs and bait when the grand daughter comes back this summer. She's been bugging Mom and Dad that she wants to go fishing!!! so Papa can't wait!!!!!!!!!!

got up this evening to get ready for work, and went out in the shop to look around, next thing I knew I was tying jigs and watching the clock, tied 3 kiptails then got ready for work. trying to think of some more color combos that would be hot, to resemble the all orange kiptail with the yellow down the sides, the crappie fishing guy loved those, and hey they can be tied in any combo that way. So my mind is justa workin!! lol

Doug, there are some pics of the orange and yellow kiptail on page 53, post 521, this is the one I was talking about, he fishes it in stained water at his favorite lake, this style color combo is just another way to get some contrast, it has orange hair with yellow streaked down the sides, the real difference is seen from below by the fish, if ya look at it this way, the orange goes from head to tail, with yellow on the outside edges of the hair framing the orange, he has all the ones I tied, but I have enough orange to tie a few more. this guy doesn't tie but he is a very successful crappie fisherman and he requested this type of color combo, not just the colors themselves but the way they are laid on the jig, because he likes this pattern with an all white jig too, with red streaked down the sides, maybe in the next few days I can tie a few in different colors and take a couple pics, going to bed now, gotta work tonite.

the other way I was using two different colors of hair, was one stacked on top of the other, this other guys preference like I said has a main color hair, then a streak of another color down each side and maybe not as long, this makes it look like there are three different hair groups when viewed from the side, reminds me of the mickey finn fly, with the red and yellow hair, you never know where an idea will come from, and I'm sure it's nothing new but I wasn't doing it this way, but just me listening to a guy that catches more two pound crappie in a year than I have seen in a lifetime, let me pick up on it. I have not fished this style yet myself tho.

must be great having a shop around and gents like that to listen to!!!!! Had some back home, but most of the crappie fishing I get is when my nephew takes his boat out up to the big lake. Guy tipped me to a place about 1/2 hr. from me that holds crappie but I guess they're getting out of hand and you gotta fish hard to get a limit.

Thanks for listing the page I'll have to check it out.

Yeah, it is great having a sporting goods store down the road seven miles where I'll hang out when I'm not doing anything, sunday morning especially when momma gets on her house cleaning thing, I gotta split to the store!!! I'm just a wanna be fisherman compared to a few of those ole guys, you learn who really catch the nice ones after a while, alot of times they are very secretive because they get followed around alot on the water, but supplying a couple of them jigs that are not made anymore, makes me privy to some good info.

Okay I know what you mean now by like a tri level of color and yeah it's just like a micky finn pattern with the layers. Thanks for the comments on my flies, I took some class's when I first started tying flies and they really helped with tying those really small hooks. And even though I had tyed jigs for years it also improved my jig tying.

Did tie a few this morning, and did the style with the layered look on the sides of the jig, two tone green, but to me the orange and yellow looks better that way.

yeah, something about the orange and yellow being tied that way, just looks right. It's a more tedious tying process too because I am tying four groups pf hair instead of two, so they take longer. I just learned from a person at work how to post a pic on a thread and did so on the test section. I wrote the steps down and we will see how it goes. for those of you that thought I was a little skinny guy, well I'm sorry ta bust yur bubble. lol maybe Iffin I get to posting pics, I can do threads in the proper places, like jig pics and tying etc. I'm excited.

this last pic, is me just messing around with the posting pics thing for the first time, crappy happy has been doing it for me for a while, and I am trying to learn, anyway this jig is from a mold I traded for, it was a custom mold made by a guy that didn't know anything about molds but he did a good enough job for it to be useable, this is a heavier head than my 1/16 pinkies and I figured there will be times when I need a heavier jig, when I learn how to upsize a pic I'll show it again, you can't tell much about it in this pic. I used a long shank size 4 hook and the jig with hair and all is probably 3 inches long. I can make it shorter with a different hook tho.

I'm really liking that pinkie head. Are you attaching your pics from your computer or using Photobucket or Flicker??? Once I figured out the PB it was clear sailing. I've moved all the pics from my PC onto CD's and use PB to post them. Only problem doing that you have to name each pic so you know what it is.

Using different hooks with the same head is an old but great trick - tie the same jig on two sizes, somtimes they just want a bigger morsal.
