met with my crappie fishing aquintance this afternoon and took him the pinkie jigs, he was really impressed with the new head, he traded me the 1/8 custom mold for them. painted some heads up this evening with base white to get them ready for the bright green color, the guy that took me fishing last week is demanding some more mean green jigs for when we go next time, I had tied up nine of them which was all the heads I'd painted in that color, so need to make some more. we got lucky with that sandy storm, it never got bad where I live, just some wind and cold rain.

just ordered 500 eagle claw 570 black platinum jig hooks in size 4 from capt. hooks, just want to see what they are like, if they aren't sharp enough to my liking I'll probably touch them up with a smooth stone and not order any more, I know ron don's size 2's weren't super sharp but alot of times the smaller sized hooks feel sharper than the next size up due to the wire thickness difference I guess, I have noticed this with other jig hooks. hey Doug, are you still there? with that storm and all? sure hope ya'll didn't take on any damage.

Bunch of places lost power but there wasn't much. Had lots of high wind but only a bunch of tree branchs down here at my place. Lot's of trees down around the state that knocked out power and some high water down state but it went down quick. Way better than the shit from Irene!!!!!!!!!

I'm thinking some quick stone or file work will fix those hooks right up.

Yeah, with the shape of the long point they are conducive to sharpening I would think. glad you all made out ok.

yeah, they love them, and I'm sure they could use tube jig bodies or panfish assassin bodies but they are like me in that the old school type jigs appeal to them, and the problem they have in finding them makes them what they are. that last mold I made for this head is really working out good and seems to be just the right size.

I painted about 30 pinkie jigheads with that bright green color today, 1/16 oz. gotta make some more of those two tone green kiptails with red thread also tied a few marabou jigs for a guy at work, already gave him some kiptail jigs, trying to get him using the jigs, he is already a serious panfisherman, ala live bait, we will see, he seems interested.

Only takes a few times out and they're getting outfished by a jig that they really start looking at them and trying to learn how to use them. I don't have anything against bait but there are those times when the fish just don't want it.

He loves to fish for bluegill when they are spawning, and I told him that all he needed was those 1/64 kiptails and a bottle of white crappie nibbles and he could leave the live crickets at home, at least that was my experience this past spring. he wanted some crappie jigs too, so I'm making him some marabou and chenille and also a few pinkies with the kiptail. starting 4-12 shift this evening.

Did do a little tying when I got home tonite, the green heads I painted the other day were hard enough to begin tying on, so I tied four of those and finished up on some marabou and chenille jigs for that guy at work, he's already got a bunch of kiptail jigs from me, just trying to make him have a well rounded jig box. And tied a couple on that 1/8 custom head from the mold I traded for, and have yet to decide what hook goes with it the best. the tying bench looks like a bomb went off over there, gonna have to stop and do some organizing and cleaning, I dread that.

As I didn't have a dedicated tying area I have to pick up after every session. finally got the problem fixed with my ISP, they did a server update and Ihad to wait forever for something to boot.

Did a system restore and it fixed it. Pretty strange that there was no backup point from the two days they did it!!!!!!

Doug, glad you got your computer working right! there is no way I could tie kiptail in the house, it makes a mess, and the marabou is not far behind either with it's little floaters blowing around on every draft. hope to tie a few tonite when I get home, working on those two tone greenies, probably should do some of those muddy water orange and yellows too, tied up a couple dozen for the crappie fishing freind and he was extatic about how good they looked, with that jig and also the two tone greenie that should cover the dingy water.

Doug, hope your wife is feeling ok! I did tie up some more jigs in the shop last nite when I got home, got about 20 of those two tone grean kiptails tied up with a green head and red thread. the eagle claw 570 BP jig hooks showed up as I was getting ready to go out the door to work this afternoon, I got a few of them out, and looked them over. the overall shape on the ones I looked at was consistent, and the finish looked good too, the ling point and decent size barb were looking good. they were sharp enough to catch fish for sure the way they were, and I can see a way to make them sticky sharp too. so many hooks with the old style points on them have a slight hump on them, on the back of the point where it changes angle at the last .050 of an inch before it gets to the point, I think they do this to keep the point from being too long or fragile not sure, but if you put the hook in a fly vice and use a smooth stone it only takes 2 strokes on the back of that point to take that little hump out and make it alot sharper, Iv'e done thos with the old style points on the bronze VMC's and it works like a charm. the only thing that bothered me was the hooks line tie eye wasn't completely closed on alot of them, and you had to have reading glasses on to see it because it was very slight, so slight that in most cases it wouldn't matter, just barely short of touching. at work now.

Also tied up a couple 1/8's with hot pink head and white hair for a buddy of mine that catches little schoolie stripers when he is shellcracker fishing and they all the sudden come chasing shad around his boat, these fish weigh anywhere from 1-4 pounds most the time and if they go 20 inches you can keep 4 of them so they are a nice bonus for the pan. brought some jigheads to work so I can get the paint out of the eyes, have alot of butt time on my job, it's the weird hours that get ya. lol It was pretty cold out in the shop last nite tying those jigs, had frost on the vehicles. when I went in the house.

tied up a half dozen two tone green kiptails last nite, so my inventory is looking better, took one of those eagle claw 570 BP jighooks in size 4 and touched it up with a smooth stone and it is looking good, the only thing to do now is pour some heads with them and tie them up and fish them, that will tell the rest of the story. I do want to pour some anyway, that is so satisfying to me, especially with the one cavity mold, almost like therapy. lol

Doug, yeah, I'm wanting to know that too. the reason I'm trying this hook is that it is the only one I know of with black nickel type finish which is the most corrosion resistant of anything we can get barring silver chrome or stainless which you don't see in a size 4 aberdeen hook too much, and it has the old style barb which is sizable in comparison to the other black hooks I know of, and I need that old regular style barb to help me keep a minnow on the hook otherwise I would just use the VMC black nickel 9147 which is a great hook and iff this doesn't work out the VMC is what I'm gonna stick with, I think the gut that crappie fishes alot and has been getting some of my jigs really likes the VMC and I told him the barb was pretty small and my concerns with keeping a minnow on the hook, he said that I would probably lose more minnows than him because I am casting and he is not, I believe he is right, so there will be room for each hook depending on what they will be used for, at least thats what I'm thinking now. the VMC 9147's with a bronze or gold finish are great hooks too but the corrosion resistance is just not there for a hair jig that may be in a guys box for several years if he doesn't lose it. I have a freind that has caught he says at least 300 white perch on one of my hair jigs and the bronze hook is what deteriorated the most.

A good shopvac will take care of the kip, maribou or any other hair. For maribou I keep a couple dryer sheets near my tying table and if they start floating just stick the sheet up and it will latch right to it.

If you like the VMC's check Capt Hook's they have a 9147BN (Black Nickle) in the smaller size's 2, 8, 10 and 12. I do wish they had some stock of #4's. I don't mind VMC's at all they are a good hook.
