been posting my jigs over on the jig pics section since thats where they should be anyway, and a lady at work walked me thru the pic posting thing, haven't done any more molds lately, but when I do I will post it up, pretty much all my jigs lately have been poured in the home made molds lately. thinking about doing another mold for the kiptail jigs with possibly a fatter head for the length than my oblong pinkie, just to mess with and to make it a tad heavier than my pinkie head, but it's starting to get pretty cold out in my shop, so may not jump on it right away.

yeah, they have what they call a milk house heater at walmart, I had one in a small size and it did good, so maybe the larger size would be the real ticket. they are pretty cheap.

I do all my stuff except clean dirty lead indoors (heavy exhaust fans work great) and the shed/garage is packed full with everyone else's crap. I'll have to look at one of those myself waiting on a buddy to pick up a load of lead, and my fire arms guy at work used to pour musket
balls and has a couple of big chunks of pure lead he's going to bring me.

made a redman head blank this evening, probably about a 3/32 weight, trying to figure out if I like the end result. maybe make another too and then pick the one that pops.

I put one of the heads I poured and I know you're going for a 3/32nd but it looks like you need a little bit more taper at the back end. The pic you have up shows a larger back end.

more taper at the back end.. I need to go back and look at redmans heads. you have to have a paralell section to ensure that the blank will press evenly, and the shorter the paralell section is, the more chance of the blank rolling for or aft, and that would be something the mold couldn't recover from. I looked up the rock a roo jigs on yahoo and found an article, those heads are really tapered towards the back, but they are heavy walleye heads too, my idea is to go for a heavy head for it's size, which is what I want from this head.

red - Okay just realize I'm only going by what I can see in the photo and putting of poured heads up against the pic you show, I could be full of hot air but that's what it looks like BUT you the guy that knows how to do this so what I can see might not be what it should be AKA your discription above. This one could get interesting!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck!!!!!!! You should start a new thread on this one!!!!!!!! when you really start going on it!!!!!!!!

Give a shout if you want me to throw some gas on the fire!!!!!!!!!!LOL

had a little time this morning and made another redman head blank with a little different profile, more tapered to the back. took a few pics of it and also compared it to the one I made yesterday.

first pic compares todays blank with a 1/16 roundhead, third pic compares todays blank on top with yesterdays blank on the bottom. Doug, watcha think of todays blank? I guess yesterdays blank is closer to being a pinkie jig head shape.

these blanks were made on 1/4" hardened alloy steel pins and are slightly larger in diameter than any I have made previously.

Okay bud with the clearer pics your first one should be it, that new one does look like your pinkie head only bigger. Are the hardened pins gonna make it easier to press the molds??
