Doug, the hardened pins make a wonderful blank jighead because I have not had one deform when pressing in the harder aluminum. It just gives me more confidence in the blank lasting for a while. I will be pressing it in softer aluminum tho so a drill bit could have been used too. some day soon when my energy is up I will drill the aluminum mold blanks for the alignment pins. I wish I had different sized pins like this, but the place I got them from only sells them by the 100 and in only a few sizes. like I said, as long as you use the softer alum. the butt end of a drill bit will work for a blank.

really thinking the redman head would be good for the wool and satin jigs that we have been exploring lately. have been wanting to get started on another mold but have been plumb lazy here lately.

Redear - you'd think so as the bulge of the head to the tapered sides would move the water right to the wool. With the steel blanks would it make it easier to make a double cavity mold or stick with the sinlge???

I'm going to have to get some longer eye shank hooks, the ones I got from Toad are nice but I really don't want to screw up the eyelet slot.

Have you tried the new Black Pearl hooks yet?? I looked at Capt Hooks for some of the VMC black ones and they were'nt showing size 2's (which I've been using alot of in the redman head). I have some 4's made up in sickle's and those work good on the boolie style. I try to check every couple of days.

Kind of hard to justify to the wife buying a bunch of hooks when I have close to 8000 Mustad and EC jig hooks (Old stock not the newer ones).

Doug, a double cavity mold is more work for sure, haven't thought about making any more doubles. have tied some pinkie jigs with the black platinum eagle claw hooks but have not fished them yet. I haven't looked on the hook sites lately, with the wool jigs I would rather use a sickle hook anyway as I plan on using them with a crappie nibble, or plain, but I do plan on getting some more vmc's though, whatever finish is available in a 4.

Just looked at Capt Hooks and the VMC Black Platinums are now showing from size 12 to 4/0. If you get a chance to fish the EC ones let me know what you think of them.

got a wild hair today and started a new mold. spent about four hours drilling holes for alignment pins, and fitting the pins to get ready to press a 1/16 redman head blank. so now I have the mold halves ready to press the blank, somehow put a tiny little slice on the end of my right index finger in the process. the redman head blank I will use is the last one I made with the back end tapered pretty sharp, so it will be a little different than fatman's and crappyhappy's. it wasn't real cold in the shop today so I just couldn't stop myself. lol

worked on the single cavity redman head mold a little today and pressed the head several times till I had it all the way pressed, then pressed a jighook after that, so it's comming along nicely. there is still plenty to do with it though like making the fill hole and shaving the area where the hooks bend lies on both halves, and pressing the head and hook again, and lastly, make a short set of brass alignment pins that will be permanent. my Dad is comming down to visit me tommorrow so don't know if I will get anything done on it then, we will see.

Dad caI printed up a bunch of tax forms and worksheets for him, then he wanted to go shoot the 22 rifles, after a while he went home and I went to the sporting goods store down the road to make sure no one was telling any lies, lol never did work on the mold today, just felt kinda worn out, but did show it to dad, and after looking at it today I am satisfied with the progress so far. Oh, Dad took my 22 mag. rifle and shot four rounds into one ragged hole at 60 yards from a rest, so he was ribbing me. that was some pretty shooting though. lol

today my back was so kinked up I took a vacation day off from work and after a couple BC powders ventured to the shop to see if I could get comfy enough to work on my new mold. after about three hours I had the mold ready to do a test pour. this is a redman head mold and the head would probably be a good 1/16 in weight, it turned out real good and I'm happy with it. poured two heads, one on a size 2 sickle and one on a size 4 sickle. let me see if I can get Heath to post some pics in a larger size for better viewing.

those pics turned out better than I thought they would. the smaller black nickel hook is a size 4, and the gold one is a size 2.
