worked on the newest mold a little tonite, smoothing out the outside of the mold, repressed the blank to remove a burr that was caused by pressing the hook, you couldn,t see it but it was making it hard to remove the poured head on the test pour. after pressing it again I did another test pour with the ladle and propane torch and it looked great. I don't think the hook misalignment is as bad as I originally thought, yeah it's not perfect but one little tweak of the hook after pouring and ya can't notice it any more. I painted a couple redman heads from the recent molds test pours, and also a pinkie style head tonite, light pink on all of them. real fan of gray hair with the pink head.

yea fatman, I have had alot of luck with the pink head and gray hair, and also a green chart. head with gray hair. I use something to tip with also, be it a crappie nibble( color matters) white or pink or a worm hooked thru one end and left dangling or a minnow thru the lips. when ya tip a jig like that the color scheme of the jig need only be a simple thing, heck solid green chart. is about as deadly as it gets. and don't think a crappie won't hit that jig with a small worm, I have some places where that works better than a minnownow the kiptails come in two shades of gray and both work, the shad gray is darker than the pearl gray, and I tend to like the shad gray the best.

Does it matter what shade of pink?? I have some flourescent pink heads painted and somewhere I have some gray bucktail.

Alot of Erie and Ontario anglers troll a jighead with a worm on it so I know that works good!!!

fatman, I use all different shades of pink and not sure which is best. I have been using the vinyl flour. pink and cutting it with clear gloss and thinner, better yet I take a half full jar of clear gloss and add the pink and thinner, which I did last nite. I have a guy that gets his jigs from me and he like the light pinkhead and light pink hair, and his best freind of 50 years I have converted from a solid chart. green believer to pink head and gray hair guy. I gave him one at a pond a few months ago and he caught a bunch of panfish and then finished up with a 5 pound largemouth. I tend to like the brighter flour. pink a little more than the light pink. but I always cut it down some so it's got a little transparency to it. I have seen a little 1/32 with a 8 hook and gray hair and chart. green head wear the fish out too. It's worth having these combos in the box,

as far as the worm goes, I buy redworms which aren't that big. If it's a 2" to 2 1/2" worm I'll put the whole thing on the hook, just hooked thru the end and trailing behind the jig, and if the worms are bigger than that I'll cut it in half and use a half worm hooked the same way. yeah they will steal the worm sometimes but it's still better to hook them that way, and those old timers I told ya about, they are always jiggling their corks with their rod tips, I don't do that alot tho and catch just as much. I found that you can throw this rig out there and just set the rod down, because when they take it, they don,t let go, giving you plenty of time to grab the rod. and don't think a crappie nibble won't work either, but they do better after they have been in the water for a minute and begun to disolve putting off a cloud in the water, can,t go wrong with the off white color.

redear years ago Berkley made nibbles with glitter on them so when you used them the glitter would dissolve in the cloud for a better attractant. They worked like a charm but sadly the bean counters won out the 1/2 cent of glitter was left out to make more money. Still have jars of the glitter type that I use but sparingly.

redman, they still sell the glitter ones, but they have a little extra size to them than the plain ones, I want them as small as I can get and even roll them between thumb and finger to make them round, just feel they are more attractive with a round shape, maybe it's just me. I was thinking about the pinkie style head mold tonite and how I muffed up the hook alignment slightly, and the lightbulb came on. lol I could shave the inner face of the mold down to where the hook slots are gone and then repress the head and hook, the only thing is I would have to have the mold face perfectly perpendicular with the cutter bit to take off the same thickness all the way across the mold face. my equipment is not very accurate so I'd have to really check this before cutting, but it's worth a shot. tied up one redman head and one pinkie style head tonite with kiptail, pink head and gray hair, have a couple redman head tied with the sf flash blend too. when the clear gloss hardens good I'll take a pic, they look good. redman...good ta hear from you!!

havent done any mold work for a couple days, just working 4-12 shift. took a couple jig pics tonite, jigs made from the last couple molds, a redman head and a pinkie head 1/16's or there abouts. been thinking maybe I need some kind of magnifying lamp or such when I work on the mill drill, even with reading glasses I can't see what I need to. maybe go buy a more powerful pair of the readers just for that.

I usually go with a more vibrant pink, but wanted to have a few with this shade. gonna try and fix the pinkie mold and maybe the 1/64 roundhead I buggered up. If I can shave the mold surfaces down enough to remove any mistakes, it should be possible to redo the head cavity and hook slots. will probably waite for a day off to do this, and have that 1/16 redman blank that was flattened somewhat a while back along with the 1/24, trying to press it in the superhard alum. I'm thinking that needs to be made into a mold too since the 1/24 turned out so good. still don't have a regular redman mold either, the ones fm and ch have were the first conical shaped ones.

went out to the shop after I got home and took the pinkie mold and shaved down one half of the mold till the hook slots were gone, so maybe tomorrow nite the other half will get shaved down. need to get some more 180 grit sandpaper too, it does a good job at resurfacing a mold face.will be happy if I get this mold back in working condition, with better hook alignment as the head is growing on me, and would like to tie up a bunch with it.I know a few guys that use these jigs all the time spider rigging, tipped with minnows, and they really wear the crappie out. their success is what inspires me to make these hair jigs.

hey fatman, my dad has a big flea market up by his house, and he goes every weekend just about, and he has found some really good deals over the years too, alot of rods and reels, he doesn't care about a rod or reel being brand new, as long as it's in decent shape. one time he gave me a nice bass reel and it would only reel backwards, I said whats with this? he said I only paid a couple bucks for it. I laughed so hard my sides hurt. lol

Yeah I've nabbed alot of good deals!!! Two of the best were a DoIt 1/16th 1/32nd ball no-collar for $3 bucks!!!!!!!!!

A Shimano symetre spinning reel brand new for $20. Lots of good tackle still out there, and a few fix's here and there, and I have stuff for my wife to take to the kids fishing club at her school.
