still cleaning the shop, and got to looking thru the jighead blanks Iv'e made, and one seems to be perfect for my next project. It's similar to a redman head but a hair longer with a rounded nose, this will make a real nice pinkie style head for my kiptail jigs, it'll be around 1/16 I think and without a collar, as usual I'll make it with a balance that will cause it to hang as close to horizontal as possible. this is great for using a cork and fishing stationary also tipping the jig with a worm or minnow, like a few old timers I know. another mold I need to make is a 1/64 roundhead to replace the one I buggered up, those bream killed the tiny kiptails this year with a crappie nibble.

fatman, yeah until I get everything made that I have been wanting for some time I'll keep making them regular. just got in from the shop and worked about three hours on a new mold. It's the oval shaped 1/16 pinkie style head. almost have it to a point where I can pour a test head. Pressed the head three times, and the hook once, and also made the sprue hole and inverted cone countersink hole. tomorrow I'll probably shave the hook bend area and the hook eyelet area, after work. starting 4-12 shift tomorrow. I moved the hook eyelet back quite a bit for the balance I want, just hope I didn't push it too far. I had to redrill the pin holes on this one, don't know why but the pins were not perpendicular to the mold face, and I could see that with the long pins, so I re drilled them. hey doug..... heath got his mold today....maybe you'll get yours tomorrow. kip

Kip - My wife called to tell me a box came with a block of lead in it. Told her to open it and she said it looks like a mold, so I'll get to see it when I get home!!!!!!! Thank you so much for the mold!!!!! It is very much appreciated.

worked on my newest mold again tonite after getting home and got it to where I could pour a test head with the ladle. the mold is still rough on the outside but I'll smooth that up later. this is the oblong shaped head I wanted for the kiptail jigs we like using. made it without a collar so the balance I wanted could be acheived. took a few pics this is a very basic jig that is almost always used tipped with a minnow or a worm, and alot of the time it is used with a cork.

thanks crappyhappy for the pics, I'm liking this head but a little mad at myself for not getting the hook alignment perfect, but it'll be good enough to see if this head is what I want it to be which is a replacement for the collared pinky style head mold I already have. gotta get ready for work.

oh, thats a size 4 vmc 9147 black nickel hook. I use an aberdeen hook on these because they are better at keeping a minnow on the hook, they have a bigger barb than the sickles.

I don't know if ya'll noticed but I am putting the jighead closer and closer to the bottom of the sprue hole cone, and also carving a little out where it meets the little sprue channel just before going into the head. just seems to me that you get a better pour that way, because there is not as much chance of the lead cooling down before it gets there. I have been taking a sharp wood chisel and carving the bottom of the cone a little very carefully, to smooth this transition area, and I'd rather have a decent size sprue hole and have less trouble with partial pours, because it's not much trouble to smooth the snipped sprue area of the head with a file later on.
