heath, thanks again for the pics. the first pic is of the second mold after pouring with a ladle, notice the channel lock pliers holding the mold. the second pic is of the jighead from that mold and I used a size 4 vmc black nickle 9147, a size 4 sickle would be nice too I think.

fatman, I don't think that clamp would work very well, it would be really cumbersome and time consuming I think. a few scratches on the outside of the mold won't hurt a thing from the channel locks, gives it the old school look. later on if ya want to remove some scratches all ya gotta do is lay a peice of sandpaper down on a flat surface and drag the mold across it. seems the channel locks do best with the tips of them in the center of the mold. All I had contacting the mold was the tips of the pliers, in other words the channel locks were opened a little farther than they needed to be. If a guy could find a big pair of regular pliers that would probably work better but I don't know if you could find a pair to open up 1 1/2" in a parallel position.

I did work on the short pins on one mold today and poured another head to make sure it was good, going back to work tomorrow, and will probably work on the second molds short pins after work. I am starting to get better at making these pins.

yeah, I'm sure those welding clamps might work, but to get it all under the bottom pour would be cumbersome with the way those arms make a big circle. well back to work today after a long long weekend, the wife says it's about time. did a beautiful job on those short pins yesterday evening, hopefully I'll get the other molds pins done this evening.

being a kiptail or calftail fan, I am envisioning these type of heads with the hair tied on, I mean they just seem to be meant for that. lol and those two jigs I tied on the other mold I made, the redman head that was a little flattened on the sides, it tied so easily with the hair. and that rounded back of the jighead, the thread just slides right down into prfect position.

couldn't snag the computer at my house last nite as the wife and boy were hard at it. lol I worked on the short pins for that second mold and they still need some tweaking, but by the time I'd made three pins, I was ready to leave it alone for the day. I didn't quite have the touch yesterday and didn,t want to push it, the first pin was perfect until I made one too many file strokes and then it was too small. may shave the hook bend recess on one side a little more too.

worked on the second mold this evening, playing with the pins and deepening the hook bend relief area as well as the hook eyelet area on one mold halve, and then it was just right. seems that when I have a mold just about done that impatience sets in, but thats not the time to rush it. will probably package these molds up tomorrow after work. really need to clean the shop up a little next, I got stuff laying everywhere. lol

ok crappyhappy and fatman, I packaged up the molds last nite and will try and get my son to take them to the post office monday, I couldn,t do it today as I am working. CH this will give ya something to look at if ya try to make one. did some final pin adjustments last nite. with the short pins the way I make them they gotta be adjusted to stick out just the right amount to get a no play or no movement fit when the mold is closed up but also easily separated after the pour. finally satisfied with them now. took a couple of those sample redman heads I poured out of them and tied a couple with the steve farrar flash blend tied sparsely, in a gray color with light blue thread, they look real fishy, I think in clear water like a couple lakes I fish they would work good. will probably make a 1/16 no collar oval headed mold next for my pinky style jigs, just have to settle on a blank, I do have a couple I made that look good. just tryin to decide if one of them is good enough or do I need to change the shape a little.

crappyhappy you deserve it after posting all those pics for me! I had to move my press frame and assorted sandpaper from the top of my table saw where was working so the wife could cut some trim boards for our new doors, waiting for her to be done with that before I re establish my work space atop the table saw. lol with the heavyness of the press frame and also the big old iron framework I clamp it to, thats a real job moving that stuff, as I'm not near as strong as I used to be, but that weight makes it all that much more stable when I go to pressing something. still haven't been fishing lately and my ol fishing buddy has caught some real nice shellcrackers with a couple 1lb 13oz. fish being the largest. wish I could take the heat like I used to, I'd be out there.
