Never even thought of making one on the redman head - with the shape of the head it would funnel water right back to that prop and get it it moving. With the Grand daughter here it's tough to dig stuff out - I may just order some more blades so I don't have to worry about finding them.

Lead in a ladle??? Didn't you get your bottom pour yet?? Course firing that up you'd be pouring for a long time!!!! What are you using to hold the mold together with when pouring???

Don't forget that other things tend to follow you home when out shopping for the wife!!!!!LOL

well worked on the mold some more and it's pretty far along, need to make some short pins for it tomorrow. swiped the 6 ton jack from under the truck and had to use it without the steel plate as it's taller than the 4 ton and thats the only way I could get it in the frame. crappy happy, I sent you a couple pics.

fatman, yeah that jack has been leaking oil and I been putting it back in, it worked fine the other day. to answer your question about what to hold the mold with, I used a good size pair of channel lock pliers opened up enough to hold the mold right. redman has done this with pliers too.

doug,
I have been workin in the shop today and got going on the second mold, almost have the head pressed all the way, then I took the first mold and did the ladle trick, just poured one head to see what we had, and it looks good. I think the weight will fall somewhere between a 1/16 plain ballhead and a 1/16 with collar, just guessing. I took a few pics of the head. as far as the hooks, I poured it on a 6 and thats as small as I'd go, it'll take a 4 or even a 2 also. the 6 was a vmc gold 9147. the redman head is narrowe than a 1/16 ballhead without collar but of course a little longer. the ballhead mics .247 and the redman mics.210 kip

alright, got the head and hook pressed on the second mold, and also shaved the hook bend area and the hook eyelet area on both halves, so the sprue holes need to be done now on that mold, then the short pins for both molds.

top pic is the new head on a size 6 vmc hook, second pic compares it to a 1/16 ballhead from a do-it pro mold, third pic shows the progress on the second mold after pressing and refacing, 4th pic shows the balance of the new head hanging on a line. being shiny the head looks fatter than the ballhead but it's actually narrower than the ballhead.

redear Nice work!!! I am so glad that I sat down and wrote about the process of making a mold. If I may say so yours looks better than mine. Remember to keep your blank and repress the mold in about 5 years or 25,000 hooks which ever comes first. The surfaces do ware and the cavity the brighter the better it will release. At least that is my experience.

redman, thanks for the compliments, non of it would have happened without you! I worked on the second mold today and finished it also except for the short pins. actually need to make the short pins for both molds, but the molds themselves are done. a little while ago I poured a single head out of the second mold, using a ladle and the long pins, used a size 4 vmc 9147 black chrome hook and it looked great, weighed this head on an archery grain scale and while it's not an accurate scale it was the same as the ballhead 1/16 and my 1/16 oval head. need a pretty large set of channel lock pliers to hold the mold properly.
