tied up about 10 this evening with the 1/24 redman head that is flat sided, and made them in the pinkie jig style with kiptail and two color combos, I am really liking this redman head for the pinkie jig style. the head is shorter and more compact than the oval pinkie head and it just looks right if that makes sense. with the sf blend I pull the hank out of the plastic just enough to cut the length I need, but I cut all the way across the hank, this is because I have tried cutting a little at a time, and it didn't work very well. every time I'd cut a tiny bit and then pull it away from the rest of the hank, I would grab a few full length fibers from the hank along with my shorter cut ones, this resulted in wasted fibers.

Hey you providing the magnifying glass to see those jigs!!!!LOL Nice buddy, I have heavy duty leather gloves so that's not a problem and I usually cast ball, minnow, horsehead and pony so 4 molds going the redman style shouldn't get too bad.

Just can't make up your mind on the redman style or pinkie yet!! Tie em up the same way and let the fish tell ya, but that pinkie looks like it might work good for a boolie jig!!

tied up another nine jigs today, still the redman head and two tone kiptail. dark green and green chart, with red thread, thats gonna be a killer. the oval pinkie head makes a larger profile jig than the redman head so they will both have their place and time. really thinking about taking the 1/16 redman and making a mold for that, because I like the 1/24 so much and it ties so easy. I have to say that the hard work it took to make the molds and the press frame etc. was all worth it, every time I reach for one of those little molds it was worth it.

gonna tie up a bunch of the black and yellow chartruese today, that has been my go to color for a while. Ran out of the yellow chart. but I have a bunch of 1/16 pinkies that had way too much hair on them from when I started tying them, so I been sniping the hair off those jigs, theres a bunch of yellow chart. in there as well. we are back into a heat wave for the moment but good crappie fishing weather ain't far off.

Hey Bud - here's some gas for the fire!!!LOL

check these guys out and how they use a pair of pliers for handles without a hinge!!!!!

Looking at the track of that storm you guys look like you might get some rain.

I tell ya, I think it is alot faster and easier to put a hook in the mold without handles etc. it's alot less movement of the hands to pull the mold apart and just lay one side down for a few seconds. I don't see a pair of pliers opening the mold far enough to make putting a hook in there very easy. when it gets warm you learn to slap the top of the mold on there, and before you pick it up you get your channel locks ready so that when you pick the mold up you only have it for a second before putting the pliers on it. I could have left the handles and hinge on there a few days ago, I mean it was working ok but I was looking for a reason to take them off because I just liked the other way. the other thing is it takes alot of work to just make the mold, then it takes more work to fit it with these things, heck I would rather put that effort into starting another mold.

did tie up a dozen more redman heads today with the kiptail, slowly loading the box, the heads are left plain lead and clear coated, giving the jig some flash, and made some black and yellow with red thread and some yellow and white with red thread, the yellow and white looks great too, alot of people call this acid rain.

Doug, I didn't see a link on your post for the plier handle thingy, wouldn't mind seeing it. yeah, we have been getting the rain this summer, pretty lucky I guess, last sunday was a gully washer twice! didn't do anything with the jigs today, just came home from work, went to the sporting goods store down the road where I hang out, and told a few lies, then dared anyone not to believe me. lol really tho today was the first day of dove season, big thing around here. doug, when ya gonna fire up the lee pot?

tied up some more jigs this evening, have a nice little family of jigs to test out now, might need to pour some more heads tho, would like to try the 1/24 redman head on the size 4 vmc and possibly a size 4 sickle for use with the crappie nibble, vmc for live bait. ya know that pouring the heads is really just as fun as tying I think.

Hi Tech Lure molds http://hitechluremolds.com/index.html They must have a lock on copying the photo so here's the link go to lure examples and go to the bottom of the page and you'll see them

I was gonna fire the pot up today but the construction crew had to cut the underground power line to put in the new water line - so it's been out. Luckily I have an extra battery for the laptop - and a charger in the car. I'm hoping to pour tommorrow!!!!

If ya have one of those five dollar lee ladles and a propane torch, you can pour 30 or so without getting too tired of it, and the mold is gauranteed not to get very hot. lol

started out pouring perfect heads with no flash and then started getting a tiny bit of flashing so I turned down the heat on the pot some and that did it, back to pouring perfect heads, never did have a partial pour as long as I kept the spout clean.
