Redear, just make sure that whatever materials that you get, "go with the flow" of the wool jig. For instance, I've used the wider Viola pearl strip material on other jigs, but it is way too stiff to use with Red's style jig. The thin fiber plucked off the pearlized sheen, tho, is very skinny & limber; remember it is so "loose" that it curls along the sides ,until it is in water swimming(where it mostly straightens, yet with a "twister tail type motion"). Just recently, Red was expounding on some slender , straight, feather type jigs as not having what he prefers in a "substantial" body, caused by the wool's water absorption in his jigs, which also "pushes" the hopefully soft, limber materials around this center mass to have them benefit in action from the water flow coming from around the leading jighead.Red admits the "flu-flu" types will catch fish, but wants every edge he can get in shape& motion for ultimate appeal. I liken this to my youthful days in fishing live minnows - I always tried to reach for the chubbiest, most hardy, crazed swimmer in the minnow bucket!

JJ - I think we all tried getting the biggest minnow in the bucket!!!!!!LOL I'm hoping they get the JoAnne's moved pretty quick so I can get some wool. Everything in the yarn section is packed!!! But I did find some stretchy cord and some gold glass beads that i think will work well for boolies.

my joanns didn't have any wool at that location, but I think I'll try and get a little wool from red, other than that I have enough peices of sculpin wool to give this thing a go, would like some wool that is more raw though, and that is what red uses, his wool looks courser than mine too, mine is so fine that it is fuzzy.

Guys, I talked to Red by phone in the hospital yesterday. He's rehab on the knee is going well, but docs are a bit concerned about a higher heart rate, and are keepin him around for a little while more. I told him he'd better get his wife to bring in his jig tying stuff, and he laughed "It's right here on my table!" can't keep a good jig tier down!

May have to try some of that Mark....

Just remind me Heath. I bought 3 bags to get the "better price" and these bags were huge.

I just got back from the fabric store with some satin. Took some apart to look at it. It looks good in the pictures, but WAY BETTER in hand.;)

LOL, I bought a 6" x 36" piece of white, red, blue and light green. $4.32 out the door. I will give you a small chunk of each to play with, BUT, you will end up buying some anyway.:D

yeah Heath, that satin is cheap! I remember they had some light pink and a dark pink and lavender and different shades of white and black and several yellows, wish I had gotten black the first time I was there.
