Found this not-so-friendly critter out on a small sand bar island in the river last week. Pretty sure it is a harmless water snake, but it was BIG and had some attitude to back it up. Would have easily went 3.5' and as i walked by it actually turned towards me (how i noticed it) instead of move away. Put up quite the show and held its agressive posture lunging to strike the butt of my rod a few times before i left it be.

You are correct,it is a non venomous water snake. They can give you a nasty bite. Used to play with them when I was a kid,got bit a couple times. Didn't have many toys growing up as a kid. I'm making up for it now.

Took this picture on a camping trip over the last weekend. No one else (in my family) saw this foggy sunrise come up over the river but me. The sun was so bright coming through the fog that i did not even know there was a Blue Heron standing there until i pulled the picture off the camera.

Yes & yes. There were alot of skimmer water bugs in a different area but the majority of ripples you can see in the picture are minnows. I did have my pole, maybe casted 15-20 times after i took a few pictures. Threw some tail spins with large colorado blades to try and keep them high in the water and create some 'wake' but had no takers. This stretch of the river was very shallow and mud bottom...... would have had to search for deep water and didn't feel like exploring too far before breakfast. :P

Campground did have another pond that was over-run with small/average size largemouth and was much more easily accessible from shore. Caught a few of them on tail spins before i headed back up the hill to stoke the fire for pancakes and sausage.

Russ you have a talent for judging what will make an interesting picture. I used to work with a guy that travels to get pictures of only two things lighthouses and covered bridges. He mentioned this at work one night and I thought to myself " Gawd that would be boring ".

He called me to work on his computer one day and I quickly changed my mind. The pix he took were extremely interesting and I could appreciate his interest.

One thing I cautioned him on though and applies to you to. The pix you really treasure put in a file and save to a DVD. Hard drives will fail either internal or external. Its just a matter of when and where. Once burned to a DVD though you will never lose them.

Professional people and business owners usually ignore this advice. Especially the ones who never had ANY backup plan. That is when I would get the late night/ early morning call. Conversation usually started like this :

Hello Bill YOOOOU got to do something my computer won't boot and all my records and due bills are on there.
Me : ok you backed up your stuff like I told you last time right
Them : ( long pause ) well I have been meaning to but ..........

Anyway thanks for sharing the great pix.

I'm glad I had all my pics backed up on CD when I messed up on Photo bucket!!!! Helps to do your music too!!!! I can't even imagine having to load all my CD's onto my laptop again. If that ever happened Itunes is definatly getting the boot. A buddy at work showed me a program that lets you load your windows media player content onto an IPOD. about $20 bucks for the program.

Honestly...... think anyone could take these pics. ;) Just a matter of me carrying my camera around with me ALL THE TIME. It really hit home one day i was out in the river and caught a muskie (the one and only in my lifetime) and i did not have my camera with me. :beat-up:

Wish I could take pics like this!!!!!!!!!

papaperch - I actually have done the math on how many DVD's it would take to back up my entire picture library, including the family camera as well as my own camera that goes fishing (and everywhere) with me, my daughters camera AND the digi videos that we have taken. I would have a mountain of DVD's if i backed it up that way. I have all my camera pics backed up on a 500G external hard drive as well as an 8Gig thumb drive. 2 Seperate locations. I have all the family pics backed up on an external hard drive and 2 seperate computers. Work computer, home computer and work external drive shares the burden. ;) I really need to invest in an external hard drive that has a couple TB's worth of memory and keep it stored in the fire box at home.

Got this one the other morning when we had freezing fog. Every single twig, branch, weed and blade of grass had ice growing off of it. (cool) This is the hedge-apple row in front of my house, standing at my mail box looking South...............
