It rained pretty good today and tomorrow is supposed to be beautiful, so a buddy and I are going fishing, don't know how the fresh water will effect the bite, but it will be a great day regardless. Was supposed to meet up with my new freind and get that mold today, but he had something come up, it wasn't a good time to be driving around anyway cause it was raining buckets.

Thanks Kip!!!!!!!! These heads just paint so easy - I'm gonna go back through some of the colors you posted and try matching a glitter coat for them. Now that it's working I'm probably gonna go nuts painting. It's supposed to rain most of the weekend so I may pour some more heads this weekend.

Went fishing today with the mguy who got me fishing mthe hair jig and we both used the new pinkie jig, two tone green with red thread and a minnow did real well as did electric chicken and a minnow. we caught crappies, bass , ring perch, shellcrackers, bream. he used a worm with the jig some hence the bream and crackers. towards the end of the day he says hey, I really really like this new jig, just what I wanted to hear. I was hooking alot of fish and they were becoming unbuttoned, I think because I was using ultra lite equipment, he was using light equipment and was setting the hook with more authority, I lost the two biggest crappies of the day, and they both would have gone over a pound easy. he left his jig in the water one time and laid the rod down, a bass took that rod out of the boat, luckily it was only 4 feet deep and I hooked the line with a crankbait and got his rod back. I should have taken a few phone pics but never did.

Didn't realize it at the time but I was getting sunburned, even with the clouds, the top of my head is red as heck, as is my neck. lol
yeah, the old boy took me to school with my own jigs, truth be known I was cheering him on tho. I was his hero for getting that rod back too, was his favorite rod, a falcon light action, not a cheap rod.

"Men with no hair wear Hat"!!! LOL I know the feeling I've messed up and not worn one before. I've even taken to putting suntan lotion on BEFORE I leave to go fishing. And I run it through what little hair I have, my wife is a pool director and she's done it for years with no burn!!!

I'd be happy too if the rod went overboard and someone got it back for me!!!!!!!!

went and met up with my new freind yesterday afternoon to get his pinkie jighead mold, the one that had never been poured before, and the guy that made it had done an ok job for someone who had never done it before, there were things about it thatmay need to be modified to get it right but I could see it would at least produce a jighead, I poured two jigheads and tied one of them up with the two tone green kiptail. I deepened the sprue holes to get a better pour, most of the sprue holes were not centered on the head but they will work. this head is probably 1/8 oz. may be a good one for casting or verticle fishing or current.

Heath, thanks for posting the photos! that jig does something for me too, this one just came out of the blue, and the mold was the first I'd seen cut on a blank do-it mold. I would really like to duplicate this head in a single pour mold, but it may be too tricky to get the blank jighead symetrical, and then pressed totally straight, or equal depth in both mold halves due to the semi flattened shape. this mold has wide shallow hook slots and I had my doubts but the hooks I poured with the ladle self centered in the cavity, causes flash at the back of the collar but is easily trimmed. you can really feel the heft of the head but it doesn't over power the long shank eagle claw 574 size 6. a vmc size 4 would be good too, I am going nuts trying to figure out were I have put some jighooks that I know I have. the tying bench is a mess and they could be buried under there somewhere. lol

Man that head looks hugh compared to yours!!!!!! But it is a nice looking head and a nice tie. I tell ya sometimes I'm glad I have to pick up after every session!!! i've only misplaced a few things and then it's Okay which box is it in. Can't even imagine having my own private space and leave everything out.

yeah Doug, it is huge compared to mine, but it is also narrow cross section, and sorta flatsided, you could get the same weight in a redman head into a smaller profile, but it sure is different in a good way, it's got a collar on it that is just straight with no ball or flare, it was an easy tie for a collar because the collar is not real fat. I don't think I would use this in a pond but some of the bigger water around, yeah think thats where it would fit. oh yeah, my wife and mother in law fried up those fish from the other day along with home made cole slaw and hush puppies, I hurt myself! actually was fried cornbreads bout the size of hamburger patties but thicker.

Oh sure make me hungry!!!! Waiting on supper now homemade lasagne, Lucky the damned thing is cooking as the power keeps going on and off. That's one reason I didn't pour jigs today.

Does that size head from the mold fit the description of a pinkie jig??? Cause that one sure takes a lot more materials to dress.

Doug, actually that head doesn't take anymore hair to dress, and the finished jig is the same length as my collared pinkie. Yes it qualifies as a pinkie in my eyes, don't know what anyone else would say about that but there have been different head styles used successfully as a pinkie. I have seen roundheads used with great success, I don't think the 1/8 weight would be a day in and day out jig for me but I can see where it would probably be the best choice in some situations. I poured over a 100 of them this evening with long shank eagle claw 574 size 4 which I need to get more of. they take quite a bit of cleaning up after pouring but this head gives me a chance to mess with a heavier head and decide if I need to make a slightly bigger head for my pinkie collection of molds. the guy that I got the mold from likes my pinkie head from the mold I made too, and he especially likes the two tonw hair combos, he's not used to seeing that.

tied a few more of those 1/8's pinkies and I really like tying on a no collar jighead better, much easier to get looking right. should have gone fishing today but slept half the day away, I had a treatment for my CIDP the other day and it makes me sluggish for about a week. going out to the shop now, gonna get into something.

cleaned up some of those 1/8 heads and tied up some orange and yellow with hot orange thread, unpainted head, for stained water. then I got to messing with a couple jighead blanks, the lathe motor was making a knocking sound and I'm not sure if it is the mount being loose or the motor is going. also cut up some aluminum into six peices, will probably start to smooth these peices up and maybe drill them for pins. I may make a 1/16 pinkie head mold slightly larger than my last one which may be a tad light for 1/16 and put the hook eyelet leg a little bit more forward in the head than my loast one, it would be a slow trolling head suited for spider rigging for crappies, my old collared pinkie mold is suitable for that but the non collared heads are just so much more easy to tie on, especially when using a two color scheme.
