I started with an imitation Regal KO and still use it on occasion. Decent vise but had a bad habit of releasing without warning. Being short on money and long on time, I made my own from scraps in my shop. An allen wrench is needed to tighten the jaws, but it always holds. It spins freely and gives me everything I need. I still dream about a Peak or a Dyna-king but would rather spend my few $ on materials.

Griffin for me. Tied on a very, very cheap thing from a garage sale to start out. Even used a pair of needle nose pliers held in my hand before. Was gifted a better AA style vise that got used for many years until i finally upgraded to a full rotary Griffin.... Odyssey Cam. If fell on a pile of money and choose to upgrade again, would probably be another Griffin.... Montana Mongoose Cam. If it was a BIG pile of money, might get tempted to look at a DynaKing.

I own three vises and enjoy using each one of them at various times. Included are an old rotating Regal, a Dyna-King Barracuda, and a Griffin 3ARP.

Of the three, I use my Griffin the most. It is, by far, the most versatile vise that I own. It's kind of interesting, to me, that Griffin Enterprises claims that it's the most versatile vise in the industry at their website. It's not their most expensive vise either.

If you tie materials onto more than just hooks, then this could be a good vise for you.

Peak! I upgraded from the AA that was in the Starter Kit I bought from Crazy Angler after about 6 months, mainly due to an unexpected check in the mail. The AA was good but now, I don't know how I ever "Manually" wrapped anything around a jig hook! :head_scratch:

I have a Dyna-King Barracuda that I use at home. I have a Regal that I use for a travel vise and when I teach fly tying. We also teach jig tying. Love them both. Would never get rid of either one. If it came down to choosing just one of them.........I would keep the Barracuda.

I use a very old Thompson "A" it has served me well for 30 plus years it will out last me for sure. My other vise is a old Herters "B" model if memory serves me right. Know the rotary vices are nice but one trick this old dog won't learn. To set in my Ways.

I tie using a Renzetti Traveler. I have had a Peak and Anvil Atlas, like the Atlas more than the Peak. Sold the Peak to Salty and the Atlas I sold over the weekend to a friend that wanted to start tying. Started out with a Terra Rotary Vise and I still use it when camping. One of these days I will buy the Dyna-King ULTIMATE INDEXER.
