Had a great weekend with my co workers in N Central Tx...Little over 4000 acre's,with about 1/3 in farmland and the other 2/3 in draws and canyon's with some pretty rough country. His Southern property line IS the Red River..Had to have 4 wheel drive "Mules" and four wheelers to get around the place.(that was almost as fun as the fishing...

Had some first's for me.I know a few of you Suthern and some of our E TX folks see them from time to time, but after 50 years of fishin I can now say I have caught the elusive "Racing Stripe" Crappie :Banane09: And not just one,,dont know what the gene or hybrid characters are that cause it,but 20 of the 25 crappie I caught Had em !!!

Lake was chock full of LMB.s Didnt even try to count what I caught.Lots of dinks, few in the 2-3 # range, and one monster that was pushing double digits.all on my med light, spinning with 6 # test and a custom roadrunner...I know "Pics or it didnt happen" but it did,and thats all I got to say about that.:dodgy:

9 of us went on the trip, myself and one other took NO firearms but somehow between the other 7 there were over 30 to choose from. :head_scratch: No hunter per say,but did keep an eye out for the stray pig or yote.I though my golf was an expensive hobby, but what these boys blew in just ammo this weekend to blow up some cans or just in the air was insane :P

I gave up on tying Ponyheads a while back, but Sandwich maker set me up with some of his black tailed shads....Silver sparkle ponyhead/grey pearl body/grey boo with a black hackle in the mix...One of my favorite jigs EVER,just dont get to fish enough clear water out here to use it much..

Only had two left, and I wasnt giving the other up,,,but after i had the other guys down 30 -3 combined I coulda sold em for 20 bucks a piece.

Neither Scott, just my Boss's weekend get away. Some old family property.Old cotton farm with some great bottom land..

For as good as the rest of the county is,he has very little wildlife.Few smallish deer ,few quail, but a good dove place..

Nice stripes. I caught a couple striped crappie some years back on a river here in Missouri so there are some further north. Mine were black crappie that you could barely see the specs on there sides, only real color was the stripe.

Looks like some inviting water, think i could get lost in those flooded trees for a long while and be happy as can be.

I love to shoot guns...... but my fishing-itch would have drove me crazy knowing that water is there.

"...draws and canyons..." I know what a canyon is but what the heck is a draw? I figured out on my own that a 'tank' is another name for a small reservoir down there. If i ever take a trip south i am sure you all would see me coming from the state line. :D

Out here on the plans a draw is a low lying area where water gathers and runs before and into creeks. They are to shallow to be called canyons, but they can run for long distances. And unlike a creek they usually don't hold water year round. And in the dryer parts of the country, they will have the taller vegetation, trees, in them because of the water table... A draw is where most ranchers build their dams to form stock "tanks", hope this helps.

Those tomahawks always show up thick here this time of year.

Sounds like a dream vacation to me!
Congrats on the good times, I'm sure it was well deserved.

Zac - i think you are shooting from the wrong side of the fence. Last i checked ( 2 minutes ago to be absolute sure :D ) Kansas was part of the northern Free Union states that did not secede back when the Galatic Empire tried to destroy the Rebel Alliance. Oh - what the.............?
