I didn't know where I should post this so I put it in the off topic section. Anyone ever heard of or seen sinkers made out of mercury? Mercury is about 20% more dense than lead.

I thought mercury was a liquid in it's natural state. If that is true, they would have to fill a lead sinker with it. No thanks.

Was just wondering. If they could make them, they could get a plastic outer shell, and then fill it with mercury. Since Hg is more dense than lead, the plastic shell around it would not affect its density much.

I would never mess with mercury. I would have thought that before people care about the environment, there would have been mercury sinkers. Good to know no one has ever created a mercury sinker that I know of...

Now that is some dumb ****. Who would fish with cadmium sinkers? They are lighter than steel or even zinc. I'd understand if it were silver, gold, tungsten, uranium, or even iridium or osmium.

Not only light, but extremely toxic. An excerpt from the OSHA gov website:

"Several deaths from acute exposure have occurred among welders who have unsuspectingly welded on cadmium-containing alloys or worked with silver solders"

The eBay seller was advertising the sinkers as "lead free".

Some **** was selling cadmium sinkers on eBay years ago.

Wonder how dense depleted uranium is lol. Maybe we should try that next lol. Hope someone investigated that one!

Solder in the Jewlery business were filled with Cadmium in the old days when I started out. Am suprised that I haven't dropped dead form some of the chemicals that I have handled in my career. Now days all the solder both Gold and Silver are Cadmium free. Years ago the first watch batteries where mercury oxide cells Union Carbide put them out for both Hamilton Watch Company and Bulova. We would keep them laying around the shop. Not knowing what a hazard to our health they were. Silly people we were.

If you're looking for depleted uranium go to unitednuclear.com. Go to the chemicals and metals section and look for uranium. It is $49 plus shipping for 3 grams.
