Wife and i have talked of totally re-organizing our basement for a few years now. Last week, we rented a small dumpster to clear out the 'junk' we no longer want and made a trip to lowes for lumber and plywood to make new shelving. Only about halfway through the cleaning, but looks like the re-furb is going to leave this corner empty. Hmmmm...... what to put in that corner?

Should be enough room for some of my toys. Will re-organize all my painting gear and going to set up an end for tying also. That is a full 8' wall and about 3' deep of an alcove. Plan is to make an 8' long x 2' deep workbench out of the scrap studs that will be left over, then going to get some halfway clean 1" x 6" to make the bench top. Will also need to run some new lighting, outlets and speaker wire. Going to be a fun project, need to get the rest of the basement clean first - as to not upset THE boss.

To explain the cardboard walls - the other side is the kids play room. We put stud walls in, funds dried up, and the original plan got stuck in limbo waiting for 'greener' days. Cardboard went up as temporary walls. :P Heck, the kids don't care, they kind of like it because they get to write and draw on them. Someday..................

Is a Fender - Jazz Bass. Was a gift from my parents...... now more or less a relic of my life before children. It does not get the attention it deserves and i no longer even have an amp for it, but it still does thump when run through a guitar amp. BTW - i have a guitar amp but no longer have an elec. guitar. :p The bass amp was traded (for what i can't even remember at the moment) and the elec. guitar needed some work so i went it on my own....... it is still in pieces 10 years later. haha The whole band (all but drum set) is in pieces in my basement, including a digital multi-track machine to put them all together. A modern day one man band.

Since a bass git is insubstantial on its own, maybe you could trade for a wired six string since you got the amp? I agree a USA(?) Fender deserves to be useful if not by you. I really enjoy hooking up my Ibanez SA to the Roland Micro coupla times a week.

The long weekend gave me time to work on my project. :icon14: Got pretty much all of the junk up and out in the dumpster and made another trip to Lowes to pick up what i wanted. The cost of materials put in my 'tackle corner' is just under $80. :)

Hung some perf. hardboard on both walls.....

Got the bench put together and moved everything over. The workbench comes up to the middle of my stomach - bar height - wanted it high so i could either stand or sit but now i need a regular bar stool. :p The desk along the other wall might be taken over by my kids and moved into the other room for a computer desk.

Plan was to have room for some tools (hammer, handsaws, etc.) but all my tackle junk pretty much filled the corner. Now i need to get another 4'x8' sheet of the hardboard and use it JUST for house tools on a separate wall. :)

It will most likely take about two painting sessions to make a nice mess........ lots of places to put stuff, so that just means the mess will be worse to clean up after a few months~!

Still need to wire two other lights above the bench and figure out what i did with the outlet on the right side behind the oven - power goes on and off with the light switch now. I can pound nails but never said i was no lectricicician. AND - kids got out of the shower (which are the pipes directly above the oven) and also found out there seems to bee a minor leak in that drain somewhere. Ugh. Two steps forward, one step back.

I remembered you mentioning that a while back to somebody - sounded perfect to me. Just don't ever go into Lowes and send your wife out looking for 'Peg Board' while you are picking out straight lumber. Turns out there is some kind of trim that is called peg board. Wife came back to me quickly and told me that the Lowes people don't know what real peg board is. haha. It is called perforated hardboard at Lowes. ;)

Hookup - No fridge and the 'boss' has already been making comments about how quickly i got this all done when projects she asks to have done take longer just to get the supplies around, let alone complete. I won't poke that hornets nest.
