So Cal I.E.
Now I gotta break out mine........

Went to Imperial Beach a few weeks ago with the kiddies and watched a lady, using a metal detector, pull out a silver bracelet. Kids thought that was the coolest thing - besides BG fishing.

Great job Rt & grandson

Had an interesting day with the pocket watch... Took it to my next door work neighbor, the cash for gold /jewelry store. Told her I thought it might be silver and would she check..

Couple of tests later, she informed me it was not silver....................Tested as 14 k white gold .......weighed a little over 2 1/2 oz.She said it has to have all the mech.. taken out and the non gold ring off before we could get a total weight on the gold portion..

Went back to the office, worked on it for an hour or so,and finally got all the guts out.Got back to the CFG store but she was gone..Owner came over and I told him what I needed...He weighed it..sure enough 1.3 oz... Had my visions of a couple of grand headed my way,but one scratch on the inner cover reveled "filled gold" ,not plated but white gold mixed with other metals..2 k went to 37 bucks real quick :beat-up:

Decided for that little ,it stays in the grandson and mine's treasure box...Still on the hunt..

Rad don't get discouraged!!! I been m/d since 1970's Have owned every brand there is and still haven't found a Silver Dollar. Just a hint my best finds have come from under clothes lines in old farmsteds. Dad might leave a coin or two in his pocket Mom would wash the clothes and hang them out to dry. When the clothes were drying the coins would work there way out of pockets and get covered up by mom's foot traffic and the grass. The Next most productive places for me is on mounds that were in or near playground areas. Some of the smallest mounds are the best. Guess that kids still like to play king of the hill and the game always shakes a few coins lose.

No place has been hunted out but a lot have been hunted down. Still plenty out there you just have to hunt. The older the better. My old Buddy K Von M always told me to spend half my time in the library doing research and the other half in the field hunting. Good advice It served me well.

Thanks for the advise Redman...Not discouraged in the least, still having a blast even if most are just Lincoln pennies..

Did Have my fist two REAL finds today...

Had sifted through more than 20 Lincolns this AM when I got a funny signal..Had a good point on the ground, but kept changing from high to low to med... Almost didnt dig it..Same hole less than an inch apart

By far my oldest, and can say that Ive ever seen one of those pennies till today :D

Nice Indian Head and Buffalo Nickle. I pulled my finder out and played around an old barn, LOL I'll take a pic tomorrow of my find and post it.

You can adjust it to where it doesn't show Iron but I have found thing in medal cans so I don't mind doing a little digging. I don't have a high dollar detector but it is a White. It does alright for what little time I spend with it.

Here is a couple of more hints. When in a old park and you want to use discrimination. Adjust it to just below where it will still pick up a nickle laying on the ground at 3 inches. You will dig a lot of pull tabs but pick up a lot of the old nickles that others have left behind. AT time I have dug only signals that showed nickles and Was the champ of the day.

Second Check your detector on several coins on the ground put several feet apart. See what the response of the coil is. Most of the time in the VLF mode the coins will have a very narrow response. Pull tabs, foil, and other iron will have a wide response.

If you are new to detecting using a set of stakes will help you to develop a good search pattern. PM me if you want to know more about using stakes. Always carry a set with me when I go out in a new area. Helps me out to set up area and to search it good not just go willy nilly. I would rather search a small area good than a large area poorly. Many a good coin can be found by this method. Any other questions PM me.

Rad VERY NICE find.
