Been wanting one for years, and finally made the plunge today..

While practicing in the backyard this evening, a few relics were uncovered..

Im up to two roofing nails,a MGD bottle cap,but the best return so far has been a broken off pen tip .....only had to dig 8 " down for that one...

Should be a healthy new hobby, broke a pretty good sweat for my 30 minute "hunt"...:P

I got one also a couple of years ago when the White's Metal Detector folks had the commercial where the guy said "and my wife's proud of the weight I've lost". It didn't work. Lol it is a fun hobby though. I worked an old elementary school lot one day and found some old silver coins.

Nice Roger, brings back great memories of outings with my grandpa!

The findings should improve ! Just remember if you find a lot of relic gold, I'm one of your good buddies... Lol

Grandson and I are heading out after work tomorrow...on a mission....

Graphed out a couple of local parks that should be loaded with some quality costume jewelry ... Might even be able to locate some of the elusive Lincoln pennies

Pull up some old maps and see if there are some old out posts or settlements. Old fallen down farm houses can be a profitable place to look for stuff . Not to mention things that fall through cracks in the floor boards of these places . Saw a marble found that way sell on ebay for 400 bucks . I could buy me a bunch of molds with cash like that.

Been watching some youtube today, trying to learn a little more about my unit and the hobby... Looks like fun...

I think one of these sounds a little more profitable than a marble :D

You can find a lot of things but I'm yet to find that hand full of gold. Here you can't just go anywhere and start using a detector, you have to have written permission from the land owner. I had permits for federal land but let them run out of date. To much hassle running around making sure you are not on a claim. Use to do some panning before my body let me down. Still have some yellow rock, may need to sale it now.. Check your state regs to be safe.

Spent the first couple days practicing around the house trying to get a little more familiar with my machine...

Recruited my 5 y/o grandson this morning to go on our first ever hunt..Sorted through some trash and slaw at first, but when that first Lincoln came up,we both gave a high five....

Second find just a minute later, another penny..

Third hit,T-man screamed " Papa you found some treasure" !!!!

Not sure but looks like some silver to me..Old pocket watch, with PBF on the back...Its extremely heavy for its size...

Total for our first outing,4 Lincolns,an old iron wind chime( I guess),few pull tabs, the front half of an old matchbox car.. :D
and one old watch....There are now 2 more "hooked" MD'ers !!!!

go on the Web to the outdoor channel and look up the Gold Fever Show or Prospectors America - they have a forum and talk about how to tune a detector so it filters all the junk out. If they can find gold in Vermont you're definately on your way.

During the summer, I regularly see a guy at the beach area working the swim area. He uses some type of intertube to keep the head unit dry while he uses the round probe end to scan in the water. I talked to him once and he claimed to average a wedding ring or two per year.

I know you're proud of that good looking grandson and of finding that watch. Was it still ticking? Those are some neat pics Roger, thanks for sharing.
