View attachment 6View attachment 5I used Castin Craft clear casting resin to immortalize some of my favorite ties. I like how they turned out, one more addiction to feed. My brain is on overload now thinking of what to try next with this.

Pretty cool idea!
That would be an awesome eyecatch lieing around on the desk of a fishing tackle shop, pointing out at how they look in the water.

Love it!

It's not hard to do but resins aren't cheap. If you would like to try it yourself you could buy a mold and a pint of resin for around $30. I made four pieces with my pint but it's cheaper by the quart and the molds are reusable. Some resins are odorless but polyester resin really stinks and I would avoid that stuff. After working with that even with an exaust fan I got a headache. The one plus with polyester is less bubbles to deal with. I just finished four pieces and once they harden up more I'll post pictures. The glitter that we use in our powder paints can be mixed with this. I tried some holographic and pearl opal with three of these and it turned out well. Rad, I've been looking at more molds and coasters and possibly belt buckle mold is on the list.

Hey if you get the belt buckles that have coin and stone inserts it would take a lot less resin to make a plug type insert for the buckle .

I wonder why you need a certain mold, is there anything to it? Particularly smooth surface or something? Just from the top of my head, why not use a disposable ashtray or similar stuff? I`m not seriously suggesting that, just wondering what trick the mold does.

Could one cast a mold from silicone or so?

My son makes molds from rtv for resin all the time . I've been trying to get him to join us and take the time to answer questions like that . He has a business recreating sci-fi masks and helmets like Ironman , Predator and the like .

The resin molds flex pretty easy so they release the resin pretty easy. Silicone rubber molds can be used but need a spray to lubricate the mold, although I watched a partial video with a lady using baby oil to lubricate mold and wiping out the excess before pouring the resin. I'm sure other clear plastics would work, but most aren't totally smooth. With cost of resin at over $1 an oz. it can be a bit costly to experiment with other plastics and it not turn out right. Most molds are under $10 on e bay with free shipping. I've already used my first two molds three times, have a couple more coming. Resin is a lot cheaper by the gallon and might start buying bigger quantities. I bought some Megalodon Shark teeth and plan on doing a couple of the smaller one's soon.
