The melting point of pure lead is is a little over 600 degrees F. You don't need to worry about the heads melting unless your oven is waaaaay out of whack. You could set it on broil and they still wouldn't melt.

I use a toaster oven set at 375. I preheat the oven and bake all my jigs for 15 minutes. I let them cool in the oven and I rarely have problems with paint running or chipping. I just wish they offered more colors. Even just blue would be great, since that would give us all the primary colors.

I did one batch of HF curing at the recommended 400F. If anything, it seemed slightly thinner. The sprue filings seemed to show through more. I think I will stay in the 350 range, and see how the hold up this fishing season.

Take an old pocket knife and after you take the sprues off make like your carving and smooth it out, works great. Mine's an old Barlow knife.

I do use a knife, as well. Kinda depends on the mold and sprue. In this case I was comaparing the finish on the same style jig heads, which I had used a file. The ones cured at a lower temp, seem to show less.
