I've made spoons in a similar fashion. What you can do to weight them is either get some lead wire from a fly tying shop and wrap it around the shank, or you can take a really small split shit, crimp it on at the bend of the hook and then pour around it. I haven't tried that second one though since mine were not on jig hooks. Interested to see how they work!! How was it trying to get the tag end off or what there none?
