Attica did not take a side on this . I just mentioned him because he lives within driving distance. If I was a betting man ( which I am not ) I would have already made plenty of money on the ice. Open water can't say if it makes a difference. But thru the ice its a winner for sure. I wish it were not true. That way I would not have to mess around mounting them eyes on the pin mins flat surface.

These are good examples of what I am talking about.

The eyes are way worse than putting on jig heads with sockets. But the results justify the expense and the trouble.

.....Used to love to give one to a kid. Then he would go back and outcatch his dad. Might be able to prove it to Attica one of these seasons if we ever get ice gain......

So let me see if i have this right..... you are gonna give me some of your lures and i will give you some of mine to fish with and you are saying YOURS will out catch mine????? Ha!!!! You have noooooo clue..... how RIGHT you are. :D

In general i am still up in the air on the eyes vs. no eyes on a jig. Never really tried eyes on spoons/pin mins. Heck Papa - you just taught me the dropper spoon trick - you are going too fast for me now!!!!! :P

It is a matter of preference eyes vs. no eyes. When I use eyes I will continue to purchase from Bogs. The others are not worth the extra time to "install". Superglue makes them hazy in my experience. I need a little sticky on the back of the eye otherwise they fall off when applying the clearcoat. Bogs has the sticky!

Attica - No, no mine vs yours contest. I am sneakier than that LOL. If we ever got on the ice together and you had your boy with you or your Dad. When they came up too ask why my pile of fish was bigger. Not IF but WHEN mind you. I would slip one of my "cyclops" on their line and see if that would make you wonder what the heck is going on.

This kinda stuff went on with the old guys that taught me way back when. My Dad loved to fish but ice fishing was never his cup of tea. So he introduced me to some of his friends that did. He figured once I froze my butt off I would never go again. Well I did freeze my butt off but hanging with those characters was worth it. They were like going with a fishing encyclopedia. Not only did my fishing knowledge advance at a fast rate. But practical jokes and how to be just plain onery school was advanced also. Simple things like loading your black coffee with Nestles Cocoa for a double shot of caffeine. These guys were fish catching wonders and I shudder to think what they would have done with all the modern innovations now.

Nice pic Papa....very nice. Can you explain some of them? Some look like modified spinners, others modified molds. My Dad used to solder hooks onto spinners, and that's what a couple remind me of.

My real opinion, the holographic tape eyes I put on act like putting flash on a bucktail. It is a sparkle that will help attract attention, and trigger that strike. I have cut holographic tape and put it on spinners on my flounder rigs before on request. I am just getting into spoons, and casting spoons this year, and will put something reflective on them, either tape or a 1/2" or 9/16" eye.

When I get my second fluid bed up and running, I will be going back to making chrome jigs again. I think chrome works well also because of the shine they put off to attract attention.

blt- no molding done on these all soldering. The old guys I was talking about showed me how to do this. Exception though that they painted their eyes on. You are right on about chrome and the shine. Old guys used to call it "glitz ".

Near as I can tell " glitz " covered anything that had an inherent ability to grab a fishes attention. I use much the same stuff they did. Small colorado , indiana and willow blades. Also use ice spoons from Netcraft. Have to use gold or nickel hooks. Bronze hooks the solder will not stick to. Biggest hook I use is a #6 smallest is # 12. The all time favorite is what the old guys called the perch eye. Thats a little round spoon with a 3-d eye or even a rhinestone glued on one side. These are the toughest to solder. Naturally.

If you ice fish try reading about " search lures ". Which is a kast master , swedish pimple or small spoon with the treble hook removed and replaced with a single hook on a 2 to 3 inch mono leader. These I use to find fish on the run and gun method. If active fish are found then pin mins come out. These search lures also work great in open water fishing straight down out of a boat. while essentially a panfish rig . I have caught some huge fish on them.

Do you use those for just ice fishing or all year?? Last time I went ice fishing was 1980, and it was the last time, but those look like they work all year long.

I bought 2 kastmaster casting spoons Saturday. Good info Pappa. I may try the soldering of spoons on a little larger scale though.

Crazy Glue time, lol. After you put them eyes on a couple hundred jigs you won't have any fingerprints,Ha.The 1/4" ones are easier to glue on.
