I have some problems finishing them little jigs with chennile.Mostly when I get back to the head and finish it off with the Hand Whip Finish.Maybe too many wraps of thread or something. Why don't one of you guys put something up for us strugglers to see how it is done correctly. Here's what my conserns are. That's a 1/32 with a size 6 sickle.

Salty, check youtube, and I was at the tutorial secting here for the first time and saw some great info. I was looking for thread size info and found it. You guys are great for info.

No expert as I stated but the size and type of thread will make a difference.... But you probably already know that.

Step down one more notch on threads, Salty. 140 is perfect for smaller jigs. You also mght try another half wrap of chenille. I have found that if I wrap my chenille in touching turns to where it looks done, wrap another half to full turn, and then give it a little tension, it tightens up my chenille body and snugs up to the head. Then take 2 or 3 turns of thread and snug that up, pulling toward the back of the jig at a 45* angle instead of straight up. In my eyes, it pulls those thread wraps down between the chenille and lead head. Then double whip finish and you're done!

Fatman, I use 8/0 for my trout flies and love it! For some reason, I get a little heavy-handed on jigs and always break it! (Off to tie some of Rick Z's furled mohair leeches now!)

you guys when you are tying jigs and you get ready to finish it up up by the head you only need to make about three wraps and then cinch it off and then put some heavy lacquer to lock everything in place believe me it will not come unravel or a drop of superglue or head cement. You do not need to make a whole bunch her wraps it doesn't do your jig justice for looks I know posting pictures on what I'm talking about we will get to that eventually.
