lighter jigs/smaller lures can make a difference in cold water

The winter in N,Y, has been the warmest on record. The ice has never been thicker than 4" and mostly thin black ice. In Feb. the air temperature reached near 60 degrees on some days and any snowfall melted quickly. Rain amounts have been amazing which would have been a real snow problem if the...

Forget I mentioned it. Not the first time.

Creature fishing mentioned in posts - but what is your definition of a creature bait?

Like the term describing what provokes fish to strike. It's been around a long time. Can't believe I forgot it. My reaction-innovations do just that - trigger strikes via super sensitive senses. (..though not a sensitive as my wife's 🤫) (Man do I like jiggling stuff to catch fish !)

I don't think so. Is there an advantage using elaZtech lures?

Ditto about the Lunkerville Slug-O. The action you describe was way before its time and did great. Still have some lying around somewhere, but my hand-poured version does better because I use a softer plastisol that gives the lure more wiggle and darting action.

Small Fish from Shore at Night on Jigs

Good question. Also interested in the answer.

We are on the same page: action profile /function. I've noticed that anglers who use lures equate them to using live bait. I guess we all have a narrative as to why specific lures catch fish and therefore predictive of what to use and when in the future. Fish tales and generalizations are like...

Over 6 years ago I decided that stick lures like the Senko could also be downsized and used wacky rigged. They worked great! I didn't even know what a Ned rig was when I figured they could be rigged on a light jig from the front and they worked great. Note: There is no difference between using...

Small Fish from Shore at Night on Jigs

My lures don't hang around long enough for a fish taste test. I tried Fish Formula years ago and found no difference.

Not fragile at all. Been a long time since I cast the Reaper. Have them lying around somewhere.

Beetle Spin: small flashing blade that imparts grub body vibration along with the flapping curl tail. I've used the B. spin with a 2" thin stick and caught fish. There are many small soft plastics that will catch fish anywhere any time. One that has proven itself is a lure that was accidentally...

Ah, the doll fly: pulsating fluff. Here are a few more based on action profiles: Zara Spook: violent back & forth waddle creating surface splashes curl tail grub: tail flapping like a flag whipping in the wind NOTE: not all curl tail shapes produce the same action - some are wide, some...

Number 1 in my book! It seems fish do what evolution has programmed them to do when it comes to strikes - those involving live bait and those that respond to specific lure actions. Quiver is one of the best and most trustworthy actions a lure can have - especially at low retrieve speeds with...

Thanks. I remember that. Just didn't know it kept the lure in place.

Action tails may get ripped, but on the whole, the lure stays intact and up on the jig for many fish - including fish caught when the lure is reused. If I have no choice because a specific jig weight/hook size is only available with the lead barb that holds the lure up, I depress it flat with...

FYI: How to make a wire grub grip that works for all plastics: start with 24g coated (floral) wire, wire cutters and thin nose pliers: Cut a pc. as shown and hold it across the line-tie post: Wrap one side tightly around the post with small pliers: then cut it close to the post leaving...

Creature fishing mentioned in posts - but what is your definition of a creature bait?

You might be surprised how few the number of anglers are on the same page as you and me! What a relief to be able to relate to someone who doesn't have to buy whatever is being pushed by the media or match believers. The other belief is that only large lures catch large fish. Here are a few that...

Incredible feeling when an old design proves productive

Other than lure modification, I'm digging some old lure designs that did well in the past. I may even start casting some hard lures that have been collecting dust for years (spinnerbaits, bass jigs/trailers, crankbaits) Catfish especially have super odor detection and those Gulp baits should do...

Creature fishing mentioned in posts - but what is your definition of a creature bait?

I've caught fish on all types of lures and concluded decades ago that most lures ever made fall into the definition of creature: anything created, whether animate or inanimate. Of course, anglers animate objects that fish strike causing fish to react aggressively, so, reaction-innovations seem...

Incredible feeling when a new design proves productive!

That pick probably went over 4 lbs. Amazing that its sharp teeth didn't break the line and that the next fish -LM- didn't either considering the fight. Never eat freshwater fish except catfish when I lived in Tx. Never knew a good way to cook them
