Small Fish from Shore at Night on Jigs

Natural minnow colors I like but need a longer 2-1/2 or 3" version. Thin flap tail looks closer to the Spoonminnow than the ribbed Reaper. https://moondogbaitco.com/collections/shad-reaper-crappie-fishing-lures

Small Fish from Shore at Night on Jigs

When I first started using soft plastics long ago a very successful one was Venom Lures Reaper which appears to be similar to your namesake "Spoonminnow". They resembled juvenile eels and skippers which were primary forage in Hawaiian nearshore ocean habitat. I was only able to procure a...

Small Fish from Shore at Night on Jigs

Obviously you've tried a LOT of different lures & studied the habitats & conditions when/where they are most effective. I realize you enjoy contrapting new variations of existing designs & colors, but if you were to simplify what would you consider bare minimum essentials that could catch your...

Small Fish from Shore at Night on Jigs

Indeed quiver crosses over into other lure types - cranks, blades, rattle-traps - altho I don't use any of em those that know how demonstrate excellent catches of walleye & wiper with all of the above. Guys who know how to use tied jigs (aka doll flies here) will keep up with or sometimes...

Small Fish from Shore at Night on Jigs

After bout 2 months of steady use the 2-1/2" Z-man Slim SwimZ opening night color has been well tested and proven as my go-to confidence plastic for smaller wallys & wipers. Those are my favored target species and bycatch includes a few available smallies, cats, buffalo + uncommon crappie, &...

    Best Mold for Tie Guys

Can't speak for the #8, but I like the #6 Victory "sickle" which is pretty close to the Matzuo config. https://barlowstackle.com/victory-11149bn-jig-hook-sizes-8-4-0/

Small Fish from Shore at Night on Jigs

Re-posting from an earlier topic before my Mavica cam became obsolete. Pic beads are 3.5mm & 3 mm, current version bead collars use 2.5mm beads for 2" plastics and 3mm for 3" including Elaztech 2-1/2" minnow. Note that the hook barb is honed down to allow beads to pass over. Nowadays I only...

Small Fish from Shore at Night on Jigs

Good idea, could be a money maker for you but you'd need a patent or others will cut into your biz with their knock offs. Do your plastics eventually get torn off by more vigorous pulls and fights? My bead stack holder collars work well for me & I'll stick with them since its my own personal...

    New business

OK, think I'm gonna go for that Premier. Do rods lose their stiffness over time? Seems like my 5'3"L Fenwick HMG is feeling softer. Could lots of big fish fights exceeding their designed for use soften them?

Hey Mr. HU, have you had any breakage problems with St. Croix? I really like the config of the Premier 5'6"M but recent customer reviews have been unsettling. https://stcroixrods.com/products/premier-spinning#shopify-product-reviews BTW examining the pic of your "walleye" the blotchy ones like...

Incredible feeling when an old design proves productive

Haven't used vintage Gulp Minnows in years, hoarding those stinky ones since newer versions smell has been sanitized and the material is softer and more easily torn. The smell likely triggered a bite from a 20# cat, not sure if 2 - 19" wallys, & 3 saugeye 16-17" strike reacted to the smell...

Incredible feeling when an old design proves productive

    Microfiber Lines

Ah, Kast King, love it or hate it. Before I buy anything I look up the negative reviews on Amazon and Kast King has too many detractors complaining about the same issues.. This AM pec fin snagged another cat smaller at 25# or so but still a beast on 8#. After releasing first cast line snapped...

Incredible feeling when a new design proves productive!

One could surmise that the grub with no twister tail looks more like a real live caterpillar or grub. Then again your catches look like they attempt to bite off more than they can chew so they might aggressive reaction strike most anything in their territory.

    Microfiber Lines

Update on 8# J-braid x8 : Yesterday after a skunk at my usually somewhat productive wally spot at night decided to get a tug after it got light at a canal that still held water for a smallie or few. Fishing was poor with only a few dinks up to 10" or so but a better one slammed hard and ripped...
