Something I haven't seen before in a hand tied spinnerbait. I attached the blade to the jig shaft with a folded clevis followed by a bead, then the bunny ties. Weights are 1/8 pillhead, 3/16 wacky head and 1/16 ballhead all with Gami jig hooks. Water tested them in pool and the blades spin really well. I hope to try them at the lake tomorrow. The bunny tails have a great side to side swimming motion, really cool looking in the water. View attachment 7View attachment 8View attachment 9

Jim I haven't seen any thing like them for 40 years. This is a take off on the Humpy spinner bait. They were made in Algona, Iowa back in the 1960's. Bud and Silvia Elbert owned the company at that time and I have a dozen or so of them that Bud thur in a box. I fished them in the early spring for walleye. Bud owned not only the Humpy plug but also the Red Dot spinner company. The Red Dot spinner blade was the finest spinner blade that there ever was. If memory serves me right Dean Gilmore made the dies for the spinner blades at Gilmore Engineering at Spencer, Iowa. The Presses and dies are in the hands of a private collector in Lake Park, Iowa and have had my hands on them so know that they still are around. Back when Red Dot was around every one that made spinning blade baits used Red Dot blades. Sad part is the Japanese came in and under sold Red Dot and forced them out of business. Even though the Red Dot was the finest blade that there ever was. As a side note it came two ways Hammered Brass and Hammered silver. The metal used was brass sheet and silver plated sheet. That was one reason that they were the finest blades made that and the design of the blade. The blades would spin even at very low speed is what made them very unique.

Nice job they will catch fish period. Now quit playing with that bunny fur and tie a few Flash Ducks and you will have winner, winner Chicken Dinner.

I've had it run through my head in the past but never put it into reality. Those look sweet and cool to hear that they operate correctly. Hope to hear some reports on how they put a hurting to the fish!

PS - Those 'wacky heads' are going to do the most damage in my mind.  :jig:

Now that is awesome! Would that work for crappies? I run a spinner harness everyday off 1 rod for gills or crappies with a 16ft rod and using 3oz weight for bonus fish (started 2 years ago and made myself a believer). Really works well off weed lines in the summer. I am wondering.......applications

The blade spins around the rabbit under the barb of the hook so if the blades were to long it wouldn't work. redman, I'd like to see a picture of the Humpy spinner bait. Those red dot blades sound cool, wish I could get my hands on a few of those. Maybe check ebay in the vintage fishing section. redman, I've got so many ducks tied now that they would last a lifetime, course I'm still going to make more. I think smaller one's using a size 1 clevis would work for crappie using a 0 or 00 blade. I think the bottom one would catch crappie and have a few ideas for these in smaller sizes, maybe a few ducks or woolie ducks in the future. Getting ready to tie a few more bass sized baits before I start to down size. Poured some wacky heads without the guard this morning while it's raining.

Nice.:icon14:
I can imagine the spinner blades put even more motion into that rabbit than my beloved propellers.

The blades run true, sometimes need to twitch the rod tip to get the blade turning but once it starts the bunny tail starts swaying side to side. On the 1/16 I used a #1 Gami 604, which is equivalent in size to a #2 in a Mustad or Owner jig hook but with a stronger heavier wire. Bucho, I like the prop baits myself, just wanted to try something different.

I think Jim if they are 1/6 the crappie would take them anyway. At least the big fat slabs down here will. I will dig out the Humpy spinners and take a picture of them they are a little different but along the same line. Guess that we need to set down with ToadFrog or Fatman and have them work on a special wire form for a jig mold for us. Fatman's posts says he is away so on his return he will probably want to work on something like this. Didn't hear that he was going anywhere but sure hope things are alright with him.

I'd love to see a picture of the humpy spinner, looked but couldn't find anything on them. If it's not raining in the morning I'm going to get a couple of these wet.
