At my day job, the bulk of my duties are in full view of the residents of the senior living community. It's taken me years, but I have trained myself to spout off a, "GOD BLESS AMERICA!!" when something like that happens.....
When I was in High School, one of my biology teachers had a battle with cancer. One of the things he had to indure was a "marrow take", where they removed some bone marrow from his pelvis. He told us that is one of, if not THE, single most painful thing someone can go through. He was given TWO shots of valium, and still was in extreme pain when they inserted the needle into his bone marrow.
