Went to Cabela's today to see if they had any fly tying stuff on clearance, and just look what followed me home.

You did it now, pretty soon it will take you an hour just to go through all the molds you will have to find what you want to pour!!!! I know from experience, I started 15 years ago with a hot pot 2 and a spinnerbait mold and now....Well lets just say I probably could have bought a house with everything I have.

Since it followed you home, do you get to keep it?

There's some great posts on the dangers of lead pouring. Make sure you read them & follow them. After reading the one on lead splattering due to water in the lead, I saved myself a good burn when it happened to me.

Did you get any molds yet? Safety glasses are a must.. After what I experienced with my incident I always where mine, sometimes forget to take them off when I'm finished.

I don't have any molds or jigs hooks yet, but I've decided to start with the Do-It WHB-7-AR walleye mold and some size 4 sickles. It's a head I really like and has a range of sizes for different species. I'll fill the collar cavities with something to make it collarless. My next purchase will probably be the STL-8S-A steelhead round head mold. It will probably be awhile on that one since it uses the Mustad 32833BLN. Excellent hook, but not cheap and I would need at least three different sizes.

I've thought about starting to pour my own for awhile, and read over all the safety threads. I have absolutely no desire to breathe poisonous fumes, eat lead dust or meet the tinsel fairy up close and personal. I'll be stopping by Harbor Freight Tools today to pick up safety equipment.

I live in a second floor apartment and will be doing the casting outside on my patio. I don't plan on getting into smelting, I'll be buying clean lead or pre-fluxed ingots. It's more expensive, but the apartment rules state we can't use barbeques or propane burners except in a designated area, and I don't think it's a good idea to be cooking lead in the same area people cook food.

Remember you want to wear a decent half-mask when you clean that thing. Those strap-on-paper cups just won´t cut it, and its not half that satisfying to call it a day while you`re spitting nostril blood into the sink and wonder if you should call the poison center.

Also, you can ask your optician for a pair of glasses with "blanks". A little more expensive than plastic goggles but very comfortable. I once got those for eye protection while fly fishing at night. They were`nt cheap but at least I wear them.
