Wrenches are cold, Fingers are frozen

Still cursing the water pump and nursing severely scraped knuckles and sore fingers. Old pump is out, and am ready to showhorn the new water pump in place then reassemble the car. Am seriously considering looking for an early 60's Impala to restore just so I can work on it without taking the car apart.

For amusement I went video watching and found a good one.

Kdog- One particular brutally cold winter here in northeast ohio. I had me a Ford Ranchero. It was just a struggle buggy that I had to use for getting back and forth to work. Get huge snow storm on weekend. Get looooooong driveway shoveled out. Jump in said ford turn key and NOTHING. Figure battery at first but nope it be the starter. Get some cardboard to lay on and remove starter with much time and effort. Fingers so cold can only work about 20 minutes until completely numb. Anyways use wifes car to go to parts store. Lady at parts store tests starter says yup its bad. Goes into back and re-appears with a sparkling new starter. After all this time temp has probably fallen below zero. Could not bring up the courage to actually look at thermometer mounted in breezeway. After much effort and time again fingers about frost bit. At last new starter is in. Turn key and NOTHING again I seriously want to take sledge hammer to c#$@%^$^ Ranchero.

Call parts store , ladys husband, is now back from supply errand. After discussion with his wife , he determines she has sold me the wrong starter. Suppressing the urge to commit murder in any degree I can think of on two parts store owners. I remove the wrong starter and back to store. The husband offers an apology but I am beyond reason now. As I think all the exposure has frozen my brain. We exchange starters and once again I brave the frozen tundra to install starter. After much cursing and possible invention of a bevy of new curse words. The CORRECT starter is now installed. Turn key and engine roars to life.

Too cold and too beaten down I stumble into house. Shivering like a dog trying to pass a box of razor blades. I put hands under cold water in sink to gradually unfreeze them. As the feeling comes back so does the pain. As I am crowing with pain wife comes into bathroom to inform me as to what I should have done. Once again I understand how even capital punishment cannot prevent a righteous murder. But I just keep on groaning with pain.

God how I miss those days. NOT NOT NOT

LMAO worst part of my project was the fact that the pulley needs to be removed first, followed by the water pump. only problem is everything is hidden by the frame rail with 3/4 inch clearance. in front and no way to see what you are working on. Got it finshed though, new antifreeze, topped off, test friven (no noise, no leaks) Good to go till next time.
