This post isn't about my personal fishing success. I have a friend, who I tie hair jigs for, that administers and maintains a popular bass fishing web site for Hoosier (and other) fishermen. He went on a couple of smallmouth bass fishing excursions over the past two days to a large central Indiana river. Here's a link to his article discussing yesterday's trip. I'm pretty certain that I'm the "Don" he's referring to at the end of it.

The Winter Bite's Getting Better

I'll always remember that it takes a very good fisherman to make any jig tyer look good. :)

Greetings from Indy! I'm new to tying and just finished up my first few jigs. I do a lot of bass fishing around Indy but also like to crappie fish in spring and fall, and fnf in the winter streams/rivers for smallies. I'm looking forward to building a collection of homemade crappie jigs, fnf jigs, and larger hair jigs for bass. Wouldn't ask that you divulge any 'secrets' but sure would be interested in seeing a sample of the hair jigs you are tying up. I'd love a couple of proven patterns that I could try my rookie hand at.

By the way, I read Brian's site daily. He is such a great wealth of knowledge for us local guys!!

Welcome to the site. If you are interested in viewing the photos of ties that I've posted, simply click here. Most of my threads involve photos and, sometimes, a list of materials. Also, I put a lot of what I tie on display at my own web site. You may find the link in my signature below.

BTW, be sure to post photos of your ties while you're at it.

Brian maintains a great informational site for bass fisherman. In particular, I like the science presented. I think that it's pretty neat stuff.

Pup - Looks like fun and is sometimes just as nice to see someone catching fish on your jigs as it is catching them yourself. Cool link - bookmarked it. Thanks for getting the JC name out there.

ab1 - Welcome to the site! Pup is the best craft fur jig tier i have seen, hands down - wealth of knowledge. I am a big river smallie fisherman as well... i use alot of craw and hellgramite patterns along with minnow ties. If you haven't checked out the index pages of JigCraft, you may want to. The - Tutorials - page has lots of basic information for tying and the Gallery has most of the stuff posted so far other than recent pics. Look forward to seeing some of your ties as well.

......i miss lunch on the river, spring is a long ways off :(......

AF,
It sure is fun to read about others success on the jigs I tie, since I can't fish worth a darn. ;) Also, I really enjoy this site and will continue to spread the word. :)
