Its winter in Ohio
and the gentle breezes blow
seventy miles an hour
at thirty five below

Oh , how I love Ohio
when the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter air
and your nose is frozen shut

Yes the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
I could never leave Ohio
" cause I am frozen to the ground :-/

Out here...
I used to make a run to Akron every two weeks... Wish I could say I missed it, but the summers were nice!

Thank goodness you northerners love the weather otherwise it could get real crowded out my way. The property value crash of '08 continues here and in my rural subdivision formerly $30,000 lots can be gotten for under 10, sometimes well under.

Actually, it is getting kinda crowded with as we say "flown not grown" faces.

papaperch - Not sure about how much snow cover is your way, but should be getting close for you to get out on the lakes over there? Have seen some reports but ice sounds thinner than i would have expected in your area. I've whined and moaned about not getting to use my ice gear for the last 3 years, then wouldn't you know that i go and stupidly throw my back out this year. :dodgy: Hopefully will heal up soon.

RonDon - Can't actually feel the difference right away...... but sure changes the amount of time you want to have exposed skin when it is windy! Just taking the dog out to do her business starts to make your hands hurt.

When it stays this cold it keeps the snow very much like powder, soon as the wind kicks up it all starts piling up at the top of nearly all the hills like sand dunes. Here is a pic from my way into work this morning. The piles are from the blow we had Saturday/Sunday. Granted i drive a Chevy Cobalt so pretty low to the ground, but drove my wife's Explorer in yesterday and could not see over this pile.......

Back in 77 and 78 the snow got so deep it actually touched the bottom members of the utility poles. It snowed a heap those two years. The snow that was that deep though was caused by drifting snow being pushed by gale force winds. The north to south roads remained fairly clear. The east to west roads were often closed from the huge drifts.

Reason I remember so well my youngest was born in 1977 right in middle of the blizzard. I was trapped in house for two days. Plenty to eat but no cigarettes as I was a smoker then.

Next year 1978 lost power to house in middle of huge snow storm. Had to carry year old son with 7 year old daughter on my back to wade thru drifting snow to get across street to neighbors who had power. My two oldest kept a hold of my coat tails so they would not get lost in snow. Visibility was that bad. Longest 300 yard walk of my life. Believe it or not those two years were COLDER than what we are going thru now. But I don't remember it being as widespread though. I do remember Buffalo NY getting plastered by snow storms day after day for those 2 years.

Gotta love the wind effect on those little blankets of snow we get, But these zero and lower temps are getting me down. I just fail to function when I freeze to the outhouse seat!
