These guys have been keeping me busy lately also. Trying to pin them down so will have jump on them ice fishing. Have found out over the years location during the coldest open water fishing. Kinda going to be a giveaway where they are going to be at first ice. Goes for all species not just perch.Walleyes should show up at my spots pretty quick too. Right now at 18.5 foot to 21 foot of water at base of steep drop off. Trouble is I could have had a limit ( 30 ) but had to settle for 16 cause wind came up and made still fishing next to impossible with just one anchor.

To my regret I had cleaned the boat out prior to trip and forgot to put my 2nd anchor back in. Anyway most came on live minnows but did manage few on small duck jigs. By the way the modified drop shot system i have been using is killing the perch. Up at Lake Erie these would not even be considered a decent catch. But on little ole Lake Milton most guys consider a limit of keeper perch an impossible task.

The ones I kept went from 9 to 11 inches so no true jumbos. Caught about a dozen throwbacks also. Below is a pic of what I call a jumbo and these are what I am after.

This gal was caught along with many of her sisters from this little lake couple years back. As far as I know I am only one that keys on these at Milton. In fact on Ohio fishing site a few of their members accused of catching Lake Erie perch and just saying I caught them at Milton. I hope they continue to think that. One of the guys on site that knew me posted " There is a reason they call him papaperch. He just didn't make up that name . His fishing Buds gave him that nickname. "

For those of you that have eaten cold water perch. You know exactly why they are my favorite fish.

Looks like Good eats! I still remember the good old days on lake erie. I think it was 100 fish limit and we culled at under a foot. Mosys on the lake at 6, fish cleaned and eating lunch in our cabin at 11, a quick nap and back on the water for a repeat and a fish fry at 6pm

PP sure do miss those days of catching a mess of perch. So good I would smoke a few to keep in the freezer that was always a Christmas treat. I Well agree with JungleJim that is some fine eating.
