Anybody else have bad luck with white tying materials? Seems like it's always the white marabou, hackle, and rabbit that is thin and much poorer quality than other colors. The dyed colors are "dyed over white", so you'd think there would be no discrepancy.

I defer all white tying materials questions to Jig Man.... ;)

Dont use alot of white myself, but havent really noticed any difference. And yes they all seem to be dyed from white.

Have gotten some nasty thick skinned & thin hair white zonkers (Hairline) in the past - now i get a full white skin from the hobby store and cut them myself. Have a Pat Catan's shop close enough to drive to so i can look at the condition before i buy it. Same with white marabou, the hobby style Darice brand has very good quality marabou in some of their packs and are very cheap! ;) Other 'fishing' colors - stuck with what quality i get through mail order unless i can make it up to Toledo and see it first. White is usually not dyed.... so you can get it with no fear of color bleeding from just about any craft shop.

I agree, white hackle seems to always be thin but I don't use much hackle for my white jigs. The marabou I get has been alright. The rabbit fur I also get from the hobby store and it is great! I have not tried the marabou from the hobby stores but I will buy some to try.

I have had no problems with white. But I only use marabou from Wapsi that I get from Crazy Angler. The Hackle that I have gotten is first class. It is also a Wapsi product from Crazy. As far as the hair I use it's Kip tail or Badger and that I have a good supply. You might say that it is New old stock I have had it a long time. Badger is great to tie a little slick but nice material. Must admit I only have a very few patterns that I need white tails.

Never really had a problem with white, lucky I guess. I have found that for some tying with kip tail is tough, try calf body hair it ties a bit easier.

I just think white is just kinda spotty quality-wise. I got mad sorting through zonker strip packs and bought a half hide from Feather Craft.
A lot of my winter jigs have white tails...
