I must say we had a remarkable day today on lake fork... We were there to crappie fish as that is what we do, but our day ended with a much different outcome than we had expected! After boating a mess of crappie we were just about to move to another spot when the beast decided she wanted Gary's rocky top jig! We had just caught a catfish so when I saw his rod double over and start pulling drag, I thought for sure that it was a big catfish! After hoping on the trolling motor and watching her pull drag for a good ten minute fight she started to come up! I got a glimpse of the beast and told Gary.. That ain't no catfish brother, and shortly after that she surfaced! Gary lipped her and we put her on my Berkeley scales to find she weighed 15.01 lbs! She was a beauty with good dark color and no scars or marks on her at all! We dropped her in the livewell and hauled tail to oak ridge where she was weighed on certified scales at 15.02 lbs! I can't say enough kind words about the oak ridge staff and owners, they contacted TPWD and the share lunker program and within 3 hours that big girl was on her way to the Texas freshwater fisheries center in Athens, Texas! Gary checked to just loan the fish to tpwd for the hatch and she will then be returned and released into lake fork to swim again! What a great day on the lake... And yes we did catch some crappie! The crappie are starting to show up around the dam area, all fish were caught on jigs in 28-32 ft of water!!
