Are you sure it was Norton?

Back when I was using the Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) web browser under Windows XP, I had a problem with a few "secure" web sites having invalid Microsoft security certificates and so I received the related error messages. This was after Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) had been released for Windows 7. I couldn't use IE9 under my Windows XP operating system and therefore didn't download it. As time progressed, many more web sites began carrying security certificates recognized as valid by IE9 under Windows 7, but not by my IE8 under XP if that makes sense...

Browsing became very cumbersome and I began to question my browser's security. So, I resolved the problem by downloading and using Mozilla Firefox as my web browser.

Chrome is less susceptible to browser hacks currently, it sounds to be that you have a IE browser hack possibly. you might be able to click on tools, internet options, then the advanced tab, click the reset button to reset ie back to default. apply, ok. close ie, then reopen ie and see if that fixes the issue. if the issue persists see if you can download ccleaner from piroform.com and or spybot search and destroy from safer-networking.org
