Looking for a new bobbin. What size should I get and made out what material, ceramic , titanium , stainless. Tie bucktail jigs from 1/16 to 1 1/2 oz.

Hola and welcome from SoCal.

I vote for Timeco (especially old style ceramic). Griffin make a good bobbin also.

Do you need ceramic or ceramic tip - not really. A lot of the wear issues are from the old days when you had to wax your own thread. If you are going to tye with heavy thread (& stuff like Kevlar) or you are a really prolific tyer you should.
I started with Matarelli bobbins in the early 80s - used them until the late 80s and never had issues with them.

Although I use ceramic, my problem is when I tie & have my beer googles on, I drop them on the concrete floor & they are toast. Found a deal on the griffens once and bought out their inventory.

I spent good money on a Wasatch ceramic tip bobbin and the first time I dropped it from just a few feet off the ground the ceramic cracked. Supposedly has a lifetime warranty but haven't taken it back yet.

I will let my American Ingenuity show and say i have tied using homemade bobbins made out of steel wire & cleaned out ink pen tubes.......... they all work once you know how hard you can pull with the thread you are using. ;)

You squeak when you walk.... Don't you? ;)

I use standard Rite bobbins for most of what I do, but if you're just tying bigger stuff, a good standard ceramic bobbin would be perfect!
