What weed less fibers can be used for 1/16 and 1/8oz. Heads? How well would heavy mono fishing line work to help reduce snags?

Are you talking about moding the molds to put a wire in??? Some hair popper guys I know use a piece of heavy mono tied in but that's on a hair bug.

You can tye in a mono loop or single strand - like it is done if you were tying a weedless fly or popper.

I'm not modifying the mold. I will only be doing a few at a time so plan on just drilling a small holes in the lead with a tiny drill bit and glue the guard in.

Ok now I see where you're going with it - Nightprowler had emailed me as he saw I did alot of wire work and told me what he wanted to do and asked me what kind of wire I would suggest. I suggested he try using coated leader making wire, pretty flexible, he got brown

He moded the mold and poured them with the wire in. I was a bit worried about it with powder painting them and having to cure but it actually worked out well and he cured some at lower temps but for a longer period of time. You have to bend the wire guard up while you're tying the jig but it's not that bad. He sent me some to try the whole painting and curing process and they worked good. Here's one I did showing the wire guard

As you want to drill in - you might want to do the drill hole first and find a piece of lure making wire about the same size as whatever size guard you decide to try and insert it then powder coat and cure, then pull the wire and glue the guard in. You could try some with a wire in and some without to see what works better, and what would cause less likely hood of the paint chipping. He also has the Y-guard mold now.

Cadman one of the guys here and TU who use the bristle weed guards or Y-guards use a teflon pin when pouring the head and powdering and curing then they glue the guards in with epoxy after tying the jig.

Just a couple of different options for you, and might save you some time and headaches.

This was drilled after the head was painted. It didn't chip and I think it will be ok to drill a few after there painted as long as you go slow. This is a 1/4 oz head I decided to try first. It's just a test piece and will need fine tuned I'm sure.
I cut a coated steel leader I had laying around. Not sure the strength or diameter, but I think it'll work.

This one has 4 strands. Probably only need 2 or 3 for this size of leader. I got the drill from snap-on about 11 years ago. It is a blue-point pin vise. It came with a box of very small drill bits.

Nice I'll have to check my nephew tools and see if he has one!!! I don't know if the Dremel has any bits as thin as the leader material. I know they have different sizes of the leader that may help you in cutting down to one strand. You'd have to match the diameter of the bit to the different size's of the leader material.
