Weather cold blast breaking records!

Calling -5 to -8 with winds making it -20'ish tonight. I was fishing last year on this weekend coming up! Where is Al Gore? Could be a record breaking night for cold temps again

Couple days ago it was -18 when I got up, at noon it was 22 degrees and I had removed my coat and was down to a hoodie. 40 degree shift in 6 hours, Last 3 years I was fishing already and more than once.

Been wanting to spend an evening out on the ice after dark with a lantern to see if the crappie would cooperate. Should have gotten out tonight because the forecasted wind still has not showed up yet. Oh well. I will probably go tomorrow evening and get blown off the ice.

Guys are catching crazy amounts of walleye in the Western Basin of Lake Erie again this year through the ice. More talk of a new state record. They are running out anywhere from 3 miles up to 10 miles out to the islands. If the ice breakers were not cutting through to the Detroit River, could drive right up to Canada as the crow flies. I've seen reports of up to 20" of ice on the West side of the islands. Pretty crazy.

I have not gotten out on Erie other than staying inside marinas chasing panfish. There are only a few public access points in the western basin and it is a zoo up there. I have no wheels either so would be hoofing it through the snow, dragging lord only knows how many pounds worth of gear behind me. So outta shape, i'd have a heart attack before getting a mile out.

Beeper just went across the radio for a storm watch Saturday through Sunday morning..... 6"- 10". My kids have not had a full week of school since BEFORE they left for Christmas vacation! They had 2 back to back full days this week, Thurs/Fir and think that is the first since Christmas also.

I fish until the water gets hard - fish still bite. And I'm still outside, except I look like Charlie Brown with all the layers. One thing I learned when I moved to the East Coast from SoCA was layering & nothing beats the warm of the hi-tech clothing - polartec, gortex, and polypro are expensive but work.
