Walleyes are members of the perch family. On certain days they can " nibble " just like a perch. Some days they may hit your offering like a freight train. Never know how they are going to react. My guess would be if you can catch perch on a regular basis walleye should not prove to difficult.
3/8 oz jigs and 1/4 oz are normally thought of as walleye size jigs. They do indeed jump on that size but they will take smaller ones also. On certain days they may prefer the smaller ones. I have caught many a walleye while fishing for crappie especially at night. Walleye prefer to feed in low level light times. Think just before daylight and late evening. Reason why is they enjoy a huge advantage over their prey as their eyes are excellent night vision equipment. Perch, one of the walleyes prey ,can't see very well in low or absent light situations and are sitting ducks for hungry wallies.
With all that jigs are one of the deadliest baits on Mr Walleye. Tipped with minnow, chub or 1/2 night crawler have worked for me countless times. They are not that tough to catch once found. They can be tough to find until you establish your particular lakes pattern.
