My wife found this place while planning our trip to New York city.... It was an astounding place!! The lady in the store pegged me for a tyer as soon as I walked in the door. They had some really neat threads in there dating back to the 1920's an 1930's. Alot of the stuff is too delicate from being so old, but they do go through it, and wind up small amounts on spools to sell to tyers. The lady in the store was really helpful, and explained the history of the store and the materials in it. We watched her open a package that had been in the warehouse since the 1920's and she had no idea what was inside.....the stuff was packed in France almost a century ago! It turned out to be some metallic sequence for decorating dresses.... but it was cool to watch it get opened. She told me they have tons of the metallic threads in stock.... I bought a few spools and cant wait to try the stuff out! It looks like it would make some great thread necks!!

Nice find, but your thread depresses me now.

I never even thought about this, but about a year and a 1/2 ago, my Mom died and has boxes of old sewing stuff like that aquired from her mother, aunts, and when she was a kid. Dad just gave it all away.

I have a couple spools of Herters silk thread and a one or two metallic thread . Used some of it to tie with . Don't be afraid of that old tread it will shock you the shelf life of it . Not exposed to any kind of harmful elements that stuff lasts ages . Now cotton threads not so much . That stuff you have is in great shape . Clear coat over it and you'll have some sweet thread necks.
