For those of you that like UV, Steelhead Stalkers sells UV Yarn. It's wool roving with UV dye. It's made for tying yarn balls and corky and yarn drift fishing rigs for steelhead, but I imagine it would also work well for jigs. They sell it in stores out here, but you can also buy it off their web site.

I bought one of the multicolor packs for tying yarn balls and have some left over, but have not tried it on a jig yet. It's very soft and has nice action in the water.

I was playing around with the yarn today and found an easy way of getting a nice taper. Separate a small bunch from the skein, leaving it attached at one end. Tie the cut end on the hook and pull it tight. Then rake the (closed) point of your scissors across the wool at the point where you want the taper to begin. The fibers will start to separate, and when you finally pull the last of the fibers, it will end up with a nice pointy baitfish tail. You can adjust the taper by moving the scissors down as as the remaining fiber gets thinner and thinner.

I'm sure the process will work with other types of wool roving. I'll try and get some pictures of the results tomorrow.
