These were tied with a material that I have no idea where it came from. The tail material is what I am talking about. Once tied I tested in water tank and movement of material in water is less than rabbit fur but more than kiptail.

It comes in pack that reminds you of craft hair but it is more reflective and more supple. Gives off a shimmer effect in water.

I remember it came in a large collection I bought on Ebay. I think they will work in cooler temps of early spring late fall times of season. The real outlandish one ( red yellow & white one ) is an attempt to resemble the rainbow dace minnow. The orangish ones are imitating the ruby red fathead minnow.

will post pix of material if anyone wants to identify it or try it.

Whatever the material..... those DO look like some bright a$$ tails. The all silver ones get my attention - throw some black sharpie on the top-side of the thread before you seal and have a dead ringer for a multitude of species!

Attica - look at the fly Tyers Dungeon and you'll see they have a minnow back mix which is really cool!!!! You could use it as a with just about any other color. The only thing I don't like about this stuff is you have to be careful shaping the tail, I really don't like a flat even tail on jigs.

Nope it is not congo hair that stuff I am familiar with. This was in a package when I got it sorted by colors and as you can see in pix it is fastened in the middle with a plastic wire tie. Material is about six inches long. It was packed with other stuff identified as " tippets ". I guess you could use as tippets but never used anything but feathers ( natural ) as tippets when tying flies.

The pic I took has craft hair on the left side for comparison. Took pic with flash so everyone could see the effect of the shiny gloss inherent in this material. Thinking that fish may like it mistaking it for scale flash.

If it gives the desired effect they should produce a few for the frying pan.
