I posted a while back that I was gonna try this. So Last night I made up 4 cups and tonight, trimmed them and put a bit of powder in one. Put it in my air adapter and negligible movement, a few grains of powder around the edges was moving at a snails pace.

Hmmmm more air,, opened valve all the way and no change.

Just for curiosity, I hooked it up to my air brush compressor for a whirl. At 65 pounds of pressure I was getting some decent movement and fortunately brain engaged and I killed the compressor and got m hand on the cup just as it started moving. Talk about a potential mess being averted. My hand was over top of the cup so I got a palm full of powder. Just hlad it did not hit the ceiling.

Anyhow, one more material not to try for filters. Tyvek!

I've found fluid beds to be overly time consuming and generally not worth it after you learn your heat source

^^ this. I've painted multiple 500 -1000 head orders and it might be just me but I still prefer and am much faster dipping without a bed.

If I'm doing a lot of single colors or base coating one color I'll use them and then brushtap the top colors after. Get with Led and trade for some of his fine filter material it works good.

i agree, i built my own bed, have the pump, everything hooked up, but have never put any powder in it.

the first night i was playing around i was just dipping and brush tapping...
seems like a fluid bed would be such pain, but hey i guess you'd save powder as well as get a better coat. (if youre picky)

Another vote for fluffing the powder... dip.... repeat. I have a homemade fluid bed and honestly used it maybe 3-4 times.

As long as your powder is well mixed and you DO NOT HEAT YOUR HEADS TOO HOT, you should get decent results from dipping right into the jar. Guessing there is probably 20+ jars sitting out on my paint table and just open, stir and dip. Personally, i swirl the head while it is in the powder, then take it out and tap off any excess on the edge. Creature of habit.

If the head is not hot enough, it may take a couple dips to get full coverage. I'd rather go not hot enough and have to re-heat and dip again rather than too hot and it get really thick and drip during cure.

I find some colors are easier to dip direct into the jar (such as white) and others easier using the fluid cup. Just my own experience. Pop
