Ever get to the point when you try to tie you can't even get a simple thread wrap to go right , or just brain fart freeze up and sit and stare at all the crap you got . 2 left thumb syndrome :beat-up:Get a idea and sit down to try it and it's gone !?!? Can't figure it out . Last thing I tied was the 2 Kraken Dubbing jigs , looked at them and stripped them down they were awefull looking . What is the cure ? Can't fish to frigging hot and no water in the river , barely enough for the minnows to survive .

I know what ya mean... It's so long since I tyed a jig I'll have to read the manual again.. Starting to get the itch though, will have to scratch it soon.

That's when its time to read about fishing and give your mind a break from tie'n. I get like that and read about different techniques or something new that I have not tried then my brain gets back in the game and it's back to bizniz. If it gets real bad I clear fishing out of my head and do other things till the drive comes back.

Guys it is real simple, just change the color you were tying lol, heck I sure hope I never get in those type slumps. I just take a day and pour some more jigs.

I'm going on a trip to Wyoming, leaving on Friday..... been tying flies like CRAZY! I may have to take a picture of my boxes before I leave. I plan to fish two different places, and they will require two totally different sets of flies. Hoppers and streamers one place, smaller nymphs and dry flies the other. Craziness!

I've been there, and that is where this place really helps, I get ideas and then I'll go to other places on the internet to get inspiration. I also just put it all away and step back once in awhile, the other day I was tying and I got to the end of a crappie jig and I whip finished it and when I cinched the thread down it slipped and the chenille stared coming undone. I tore the jig apart and redid it but I put everything away and now I've been fishing instead but we all have this happen, just take a deep breath, relax and it will come back to you Quint, you tie nice jigs and you will continue, just need a break.

It happens almost every year to me around this time, and by the stat numbers on the forum and website it must happen across the board with many people. The stat numbers are always the lowest during late summer and peak around February. That would be about correct with my personal tying also..... when the weather is nasty all you can do is dream about fishing so the ideas (& feathers) fly.

For inspiration, a lot of times i will start looking through saltwater fly patterns and try to find something to convert to my fishing style.

I go into a slump when it gets hot.. Too dang hot to go out to my shop and work.. Since I am banned from working in the house.. ( at least while wife is home ) lol
I hope to have that resolved by next summer... I will be building an air conditioned shop inside my barn to eliminate the heat problem!

Actually I have the opposite problem. Clinical name would have to be tying overdoneitis. I do too much viewing on web and thinking in general. Always reading something that enthuses me in one way or another. Sometimes its like I am trying to re-invent the wheel or improve upon perfection. I guess fixing what ain't broke would be my specialty.

Very rarely do I have a unique idea but a lot of times may combine thoughts of others. Sometimes it works sometimes it don't. But boy I sure have fun trying. Really waste a lot of money on a lot of material that strikes a fancy in me than quickly dies out. Have several jig patterns and styles that almost always catches fish if I can find them. But I still experiment like a mad scientist.

For one period there I was working on Reds wool jigs , Gummi minnows , sabiki rigs and in no particular order or sense. Maybe just maybe that is what keeps me mentally young. Physically thats a whole nother story.
