Tying scuds

I decided to try my hand at scuds tonight.

Seemed easy enough, until I tried fastening the scud back.
It drove me crazy!

Is there something that I'm missing?
It just slips all over the place when trying to lash it down in the front.

I used the, in the riffle video.
I probably just need more practice.

I put down a good thread base, lay the material flat on the hook and do a pinch wrap, bring the thread up the inside of one finger, then down the other side and while holding the scud material pull down on the thread to seat it then put a few more wraps then half hitch to really lock it in.

Cut the scud back into a point, will help you get it started on the hook.
