I have tungsten beads, discs and nails that I've been playing with to get jigs deeper faster and I've been checking into tungsten powder that I plan on mixing for jigs. It's expensive so before I buy several ounces I wanted to ask if anyone has experience working with and mixing it. If so, what are you mixing it with? Thanks..

I know a guy that makes and sells tungsten weights. He said he's able to melt it under pressure then injects it into his mold. I asked him to show me his setup but his partner is a little reluctant to show me since he knows I'm sorta in the biz also. I'm hoping to see this someday. He said that it is a lot easier to cast tungsten than people lead you to believe. I told him I'm not interested in casting weights, only jigs, so maybe he'll come around and show me someday.

I talked to tungsten powder in another thread. Not sure where - but mixing it w/ epoxy, then pouring.

Bucko - your buddy may also want to be careful, because Terminator has a patent

I recently asked a tungsten specialist for custom jig head work and he said it was impossible. He makes all sort of tube heads, beads, weights and the like but never managed to get the tungsten fixed on a hook wire. I´m afraid epoxy is your best bet. I bought large slotted beads from him and tied or powderpainted them in, worked good enough for me.

Edit: The industriallly produced tungsten jig heads that come to mind always have some sort of plastic fitting that is not practicable in home-shop crafting.

He said that under pressure it isn't a problem to melt. 900 degrees I think he said? It's like a pressure cooker effect I'm guessing? I'm not surprised he didn't want to let me in on such secret. But I've seen the finished product with my own eyes and he does it in his shop being the house.

Sintered metal process but I would not have thought tunsten would fuse at that temperature but pressure does amazing things.
