Tungsten dumbell jigs

I picked up a pack of large silver tungsten dumbells/barbells that are really heavy for their size and tried to paint a few which wasn't my greatest effort or at least the results didn't turn out the greatest. These aren't cheap at a half buck each,they weigh about 1/11 oz. I tied these using a Gamakatsu 60410 #1 90 degree bend jig hook.Body is shad gray crosscuts with charteuse palmer chenille twisted in with it. Tail is yellow and white hackle with the SF Flash Blend tied in first to add a little flash. Dumbells were tied in above the hook shank. Second pic is some 1/8 oz footballs on 1/0 ultrapoints. With a Gama + the Tung. dumbell...... that could be a costly little minnow! Sure looks good though.

How did you paint the dumbells? Had tried with powder awhile ago and had heck of a time. Biggest problem was trying to find a way to hold it while heating.

Just thinking - take some spinner making wire and wrap a tight loop around the middle of it then powder and use the wire to hang in the oven for curing the center of it won't matter much if the paint is missing as most times thread is wrapped around it.

The footballs are nice!!!!!! I'm still waiting on the small ones from Led for the UL crankbaits I sent him.

I powder painted the dumbells using small hemos. Paint came off where the dumbells were held. First try with the hemos was a little scary,clamped it really tight and dumbell came free and struck the back portion of my desk,the richochet hit me in the chest. After that decided not to clamp it so tight. Fm, the wire method would probably work. I think I'll leave the rest silver and handpaint eyes on them. I bought a 20 ct of these for $9.99. I have seen tungsten worm weights go for $1.50 each so THESE AREN'T TOO BAD !! I ordered three new molds to try something different from the footballs. Two shaky head molds and a wacky jig mold. Really intrigued by the wacky with the wire guard and offset #2 hook.I think I'll make some smaller bunny's with them. Maybe even throw some wacky worms. The mold has a 3/32 and 3/16 head in it. Both sizes should fill some gaps in the smallie department.
