Palmering is one of the few things a saddle hackle or some of those high dollar feathers really do work a little better than neck hackle. Looks good though Vern.

Yeah, & I was corrected too. Now I know that's a collar, not Palmered. Live & learn! LOL!

I've heard it called both V.

potato/patatters

when you start palmering (you know you will) - watch your segmentation..... Counter wrapping with wire makes it really durable.

Barbed works best :D

Nice jig :)
I do a lot of collars on small jigs and flies and use the better necks and saddles because of the barb density on each hackle plus I can pick the right size hackle for the hook size from these.

The palmering is the orange neck, right?
Well, that's what I thought. Actually, I was told that I was just creating a hackle collar. This is Palmering (I think). These were tied by justcameslabdaddy & posted on another forum.

Not sure who your post is directed at, but I didn't have a clue what palmering was.

100% sure it is not you hookup. ;) I learned a 'good bit' from him myself even though...... nevermind. I tied for some 20+ years off and on before i knew the difference of palmering or collars or tailing or whip finishes or hair stackers or etc. I was either wrapping it or letting it hang. Spent just as long not even understanding the difference between hackle & marabou, nor did i care, since my ugly ducklings caught fish. Back then, a feather was a feather was a feather. With the age of the internet forum, we can become fully edjumacated addicts in far less time. Bah...... who need rules. Tongue firmly in cheek.

Kidding aside, it looks well tied. Do you strip off one side of the feather fibers before you wrap them? Always conflicted in my head if i should or not. Usually do. I put some hackle collars on the swap jigs.

LOL Vernon - check out my egg sucking leech tutorial in patterns/recipe section. Old small DC motors is a great source for "tying" wire. If you need some wire....

I rarely post on CDC but when I saw justcameslabdaddy's tyes - had to say something. That guy has skills and is extremely talented.

I been making and selling these as fast as I can tie them here the last couple weeks. Of course I have a day job to that gets in the way.
