My son-in-law and I tried the crappie at Okatibbee Res. in east-central MS this morning. We got on the water at 5:15 and didn't do much until the sun came out around 7:30. We trolled 6 poles around 50 ft. back at 1.5 mph.. Chartreuse/Black back seemed to be the best color. The trolling motor batteries finally gave out at around 9:30 or so. We had 17 crappie and 2 LMB that we kept. Caught a bunch of "dinks" that we threw back. We were using Bandit 300 series crankbaits.

Great report and pics. BTW what kind of boat is that?

It's an 18 ft Stratus with a Merc 150. I just got it a month or so ago from a guy on C.com who lives in Jackson, MS. It came completely rigged out with 4 sets of Hi-Tec rod holders, Minn Kota Co-Pilot TM, pole holders behind the bench seat, and he threw in 10 jig poles with casting reels on them. Has a Lowrance GPS/Sonar unit on it also. I usually just hear about deals like that.

I really like it Jeff. We went again yesterday and caught 19 crappie and a 2 lb channel cat. We trolled with the trolling motor for about 4 hrs., until the TM batteries were getting weak. Then when I went to crank the big motor to go back to the landing, I didn't have enough juice to turn over the motor. What now? Luckily a friend came by in a john boat with a 25 hp on it and pulled us across the lake. Learned another lesson, charge the cranking battery too!
