After seeing all those beautiful bunny jigs that JJ always tye and post I finally tied some today. Think I'm going to like tying the bunny jigs.
I had some minnow heads left over from the swap jigheads I had ordered. I used some custom mixed baby blue powder and used a little purple on the bottom. I'm not sure why but this color combo has been working on the clear lake I been fishing but as long as it isn't broke I'm staying with it, LOL. Most of the time I use a orange head with these colors.

Looks like a winner. Rabbit is one of my favorite materials. I think you'll be pleased with the action in the water.

Some advice for future ties, though... Sometimes a longer hide strip in the tail will wrap around the hook when you cast. You can prevent it by tying in a small loop of stiff mono under the bend. Keeps the strip from coming up over the point.

I tried to make one that looked showable, has'nt happened yet, lol.Yours looks good.

LOL!!!:D It is different to work with. I have had some bunny hanging for almost two years and tried to stay away from it. I'm looking forward to fishing with the bunny if this wind will ever lay or just slow to around 10 mph....

Thanks for the info about the mono Shoemoo and also thanks for the kind commits everyone.

Nice, the more you tie the easier it gets. Experiment a little with the tail trying some with the skin side down. I'd get that one wet and see how it swims. Crosscuts make a big difference when wrapping the body, unfortunately not all zonker colors are available in crosscut for some reason. Sometimes the longer zonker strips have a section where it's not straight up and down but cut to the side like crosscuts. I put these aside and when I get enough I use them as crosscuts. The tiger barred strips are really cool but costly.Lately I've been barring them myself using permanent markers, regular and neon.

 :jig: - and yes you will love the action, they just breathe in the water and you don't have to do a thing. Move it and it truely comes alive. I actually think they get too much action going at times when the water is cold.

You can also help keep them from fouling up over the hook by tying in a bucktail 'wing' on top of the zonker. It just helps to keep it down and behind the hook.

Oh geez, that jig looks like its pushing the limit for the amount of fluff on a head that size. I'll bet it'll drive shallow bass crazy. JiggerJohn has been suggesting tied loops to minimize flip tangles for years but I never tried. Now that ShoeMoo has also mentioned, gonna have to try.

Thanks for all the tips everyone has given in this thread :) I'm liking the bunny.:)

Nice ties - I got some Zonker strips in a fly tying material swap box and they've just been sitting there with all the paint stuff I've been trying - gonna have to break em out.

Okay bunny people - looking at the strips do you folks cut the end to a point shape when tying in??? or just use it as is?? Having never used them I was thinking there would be a larger than normal bump of hide and hair when you start to wrap.
